■STARDUST REVUE *First appearance in 2003
From the moment the two of you were standing next to each other at rehearsal, your aura was on full display. Then, as we chatted, my ears and heart were on the verge of exploding at the amazing duet between the two. I really forgot to blink. That scene is still etched in my mind.
I was surprised to be invited as a guest, and I went into the recording thinking that there was no way I could sing properly on TV, which I’m not good at. However, perhaps it was because I felt relieved that Oda-san was there, or maybe it was because the MC was a little popular (lol), but I was able to sing surprisingly calmly. I feel like my mindset about singing in front of people has changed since that day.■Takako Matsu *First appearance in 2006
Every time Oda-san called me, I sang various choruses with JUJU-san, and I have fond memories of the beauty and difficulty of this song.■Yoshiki Mizuno (Ikimonogakari) *First appearance in 2006
The first time I was invited to perform at “Christmas Promise,” I played “SAKURA.” The impressive chorus line sung by Mr. Oda still remains in my heart even after 18 years. Tetsuo Saito appeared on that 2006 episode. While talking with Mr. Oda, it was very impressive to hear him say, “I’m glad I made music.”
All of the songs we performed in the committee band are precious memories, and I couldn’t choose, but I intentionally chose a lot of songs by other performers. Every time, I choose the song “This Day” that everyone sings together because I want to choose it carefully.■Hitomi Yaida *First appearance in 2007
The time I spent with Mr. Oda is a huge treasure for my musical life. I would like to thank Mr. Oda for the wonderful musical experiences and connections with people that he gave me.■JUJU *First appearance in 2009
This is a list of songs by Mr. Oda that I will never forget, especially those that keep me humming the harmonist part. Actually, I’d like to make a playlist of all the songs we shared…■Sho Wada (TRICERATOPS) *First appearance in 2011
A number of medleys performed with Mr. Oda in “The Promise of Christmas.” Some of the song choices were suggestions I made, and some were ideas from Mr. Oda. Many of the songs suggested by Mr. Oda were unfamiliar to me, which is why they felt fresh, and the more I practiced them, the more I fell in love with them. That’s why this selection focuses on such songs.■Anri Kumaki *First appearance in 2017
“Takeda’s Lullaby” was sung by Junko Yamamoto and Ms. Oda. I love this song, and my father used to sing it to me on the guitar when I was little. The dialogue between Junko-san and Oda-san was also great and it was a heart-warming song.
On the December 24th broadcast, an overwhelming number of artists from 2009, a total of 21 groups and 34 artists, came together to perform a large medley that lasted approximately 23 minutes. Broadcast “22’50”.
What was born when artists, each with their own names and abilities, gathered and sang together? Nemoto, who participated in the legendary “22’50”, said, “Mr. Oda approached me from the planning stage, and when I heard his concept, I couldn’t even imagine what was about to happen. But all in all, I could feel Mr. Oda’s passion, and I don’t think there are many musicians who work so seriously from the rehearsal time onward.”
During the recording, the audience gave a standing ovation after the last song of the medley, “I wanted to go home”. A round of applause filled the stage for several minutes.
Kazumasa Oda’s music special program “Christmas Promise 2024”, which will deliver all the famous songs that we want to sing and pass on to the next generation, regardless of whether they are Western or Japanese music, will be broadcast in two parts from 10pm on December 24th ( *Part 2 excludes some areas).
