The setting for this trip is Thailand, which has undergone remarkable evolution in recent years and shines uniquely in the Asian film industry. Nakajima visited GDH, the most active film production company in the Thai film industry. Since its founding in 2015, it has made huge hits in a wide range of genres, from youth films to horror films, and has produced local films such as “Bad Geniuses” (2017) and “Inheritance of the Goddess” (2021). He is a leading force in Thai cinema, bringing sophisticated production to the traditionally colorful Thai cinema, and paving the way for its expansion into the world.

Thai horror is one of the Thai movies that is attracting attention from around the world. The person who has created this history is director Banjong Pisantanakoon, a founding member and executive director of GDH. After graduating from the film department of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s highest academic institution, he made his feature film debut at the age of 25 with “Spiritual Photography” (2004), which he co-directed. It quickly became a hot topic, and the film was even remade in Hollywood. In addition, the horror comedy “My Ghost” (2013), based on a famous Thai ghost story, broke the No. 1 box office record in Thailand at the time. They also achieved success with the memorable “Inheritance of the Goddess,” and are truly a blockbuster manufacturer that Thailand is proud of. Director Banjon welcomed Nakajima at GDH and agreed to an interview.

When asked about the appeal of GDH, Nakajima says that it is a company that “has the courage to take risks,” and also reveals the director’s particular method of writing scripts. Furthermore, Japanese horror films called J-horror actually had a big influence on Director Banjon. “The Ring” (1998) and “The Circuit” (2001) are two of his favorite movies, and he says that without them, “Spiritual Photography” would not have been created. What did Nakajima feel after hearing about the future of Thai cinema and the driving force behind making movies from Director Banjeong?

Then, in Ayutthaya, a world heritage site, we will visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, a temple with three large pagodas each symbolizing a king at the time and said to have contained their remains. ■Kento Nakajima comment
Q. What impressed you during your undercover interview with GDH, the film production company that dominates the Thai film industry?
Being able to interview GDH, a production company that is leading the current Thai film industry, was a great experience for me as a Japanese actor. It was interesting to see that both Thailand and Japan have one thing in common: they are conscious of making films that can be delivered to the world.

Q. What impressed you during the interview with director Banjong Pisantanakoon, a super hit maker who thrills audiences with his horror comedies?
Director Bang Jeong respects Japanese horror films, and I was very happy to hear about his film “Spiritual Photography,” which shocked me. One thing I’m worried about is whether there are spirits in the two-shot of me and the director. That’s what I mean (laughs).

Q. Message to viewers
I also experienced riding an elephant for the first time in my life, so please look forward to seeing it!
