DJ/producer salute, originally from Vienna, Austria and currently based in Manchester, will release his new album “TRUE MAGIC” on Friday, July 12th.
Salute also appeared at the “Rainbow Disco Club” held last week, and it is still fresh in my memory that they performed as a guest on the Red Bull stage. The EP “Shield” released last year on Ninja Tune’s Technicolor label received support from artists such as Four Tet, DJ Seinfeld, Floating Points, Mall Grab, Daphni, Skrillex, Fred again… Nominated for “Best Electronic/Dance” at the MOBO Awards. He also attracted attention for his performances at “Coachella,” “Glastonbury” and “Boiler Room.”
For this album, TRUE MAGIC, he took a more collaborative approach, renting a house in the countryside and working on the album with his friends. From the visuals to the sound, the album’s concept is inspired by JDM culture and old Japanese car advertisements, spending hours searching YouTube, and racing old Japanese cars in a fictional race called “TRUE MAGIC.” created.
salute says, “While watching old TV footage that my parents recorded on VHS, I learned to enjoy watching old advertisements on YouTube. From there, I started watching old car advertisements, and at some point I was introduced to Japan. I came across a car advertisement,” he said, revealing the background. This visual concept also advances the album’s sound, resulting in an album full of speed.
The album features Rina Sawayama, Karma Kid, Disclosure, Sam Gellaitry, Minami Nakamura, Empress Of, Lea Sen, piri, and LEILAH. It is scheduled to be released simultaneously on CD, LP, and digitally, and the domestic CD will include an additional bonus track, as well as a commentary booklet and translated lyrics. The LP will be available in two versions: regular edition (black vinyl) and limited edition (yellow vinyl), and a very limited number of cassette tapes will also be sold at Beatink.com.
[salute comment]
I tried to take a pop approach with this album. More emphasis on songwriting and collaboration. Dance music tends to focus on doing everything yourself, but I wanted to involve the team around me to develop my ideas. One of the things I’m really proud of is how organic our work with our collaborators is. We had some great people working on this album.
