At the same time, the title song and video of the first single are released.
After working with The Libertines and Babyshambles, punk darling Pete Doherty has completed his first new solo album in nine years, “Felt Better Alive.” Announced to be released by Strap Originals on May 16th. At the same time, the first single “Felt Better Alive” from the same album was released.
The music video for the single “Felt Better Alive” was directed by French artist Rose Bosch (“1492 Columbus”, “Holiday in Provence”) and TwinPiix. Starring French actors Sophie Renoir (The Death) and Laura Genovino (The Life). The video was shot in Normandy, northwestern France, in early December.
“Felt Better Alive”
New album Felt Better Alive is Pete Doherty’s most confident solo collection to date, with a vibrant playfulness and occasional glimpses of innocence. Packed with Pete’s signature sense of melody, quirky poetic realism, and flair for visual storytelling.
The production of the album began in the idyllic rural village in Normandy where Peter and his family live. His friend Mike Moore was used as producer and musician. Moore has produced for Baxter Dury and is a guitarist in Liam Gallagher’s band.
Peter says this about the lead single, “Felt Better Alive,” which uses pedal steel.
“It’s a very bouncy, very country song. The lyric ‘Snatch the mouth of the Humber’ is a line from[British TV series]Hancock[about sugar stuck to the bottom of a bowl of cornflakes].” And I always planned to sing in the sweet, soulful way that only a cowboy can sing. I love the chorus, “I thought I was going to run away / But my saddle strap snapped like a tourniquet on a dog bite.” It’s like the movie starring Humphrey Bogart, who sets out in search of gold, only to be chased by bandits and lost in the mountains.
■Peter Doherty’s profile
Peter Doherty topped the UK charts in 2024 with The Libertines’ fourth studio album, All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade. His fifth solo album, “Felt Better Alive,” is on a roll and has a cheerful spirit, featuring acoustic and orchestral, indie-folk and country pieces, as well as poetic pieces that are both moving and comedic. It’s a wonderful collection of songs.
Not only is Peter alive, but he is also a strong creative force, with more projects and plans and more reasons to live than ever before. He turns 46 this year, and on his album “Felt Better Alive,” he delivers some of the most skillful, uplifting, and charming songs of his always melodic life.
