Miso Extra has announced that they will release their first album “Earcandy” on Friday, May 16th. In addition, the preceding single “Certified” was released today, January 23rd (Thursday).
Miso Extra is based in London and has roots in England and Japan. The album was written and recorded last summer at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 with Grammy Award-winning engineer Riccardo Damian (Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith, Sampha, etc.). As the title suggests, this work solidifies Miso Extra’s position as an irresistible, confident new talent capable of turning exciting, spontaneous moments of creation into aural delights.
The album features Metronomy, DJ Boring, AK Paul, MICHELLE, Tyson, and more. Taking listeners on a journey of vulnerability, growth, and self-empowerment, the album fuses genres such as K-pop, UK garage, ’80s sounds, and R&B to create a sophisticated, self-conscious pop record. Additionally, on the visual side, he collaborates with Chinese-Indonesian film director/photographer Claryn Chong.
Miso Extra commented: “It’s important to grow through mistakes and not be afraid of them. There’s a deep message in there, but it’s wrapped in earcandy. It makes it easier to take the medicine. “It’s a spoonful of sugar.”
He also talks about the collaboration with Riccardo Damian. “He’s mineMr. MiyagiIt was. I learned a lot from him throughout the process. Also, I’m a huge Gorillaz fan, so working with Studio 13 was very exciting. Not only could you channel their energy into it, but you could feel the influence of other people who have used that space, from Erykah Badu to Paul McCartney.”
