Anarchic artist WHO SHOT SCOTT, who will destroy the structure, releases EP “BRAIN (SIDE B)” and single “U SCARED.”

Auckland-based alternative artist/producer WHO SHOT SCOTT has released a new EP called “BRAIN (SIDE B)”. It mercilessly destroys the barriers between punk and hip hop, expelling ferocious and anarchic energy.

This self-produced project consists of anti-capitalist anthems and songs that describe their true feelings, and counters the current sympathy of music listeners and the oppressive structure of the music industry. He speaks wildly about his personality and rebellion.

He came to Japan in April. He also appeared at international music showcase “MUSIC BRIDGE TOKYO” to be held at Kichijoji Shuffle on April 11th, and also announced his performance at Yokohama Baysis on April 10th and Tachikawa BABEL on the 14th.

“U SCARED”

Regarding this decision-making direction, WHO SHOT SCOTT says:

“I made this EP because it repulsive. It’s a repulsion against the peer pressure from the music industry, pressure to follow the rules, and intervention such as the need to create ‘mouth’ art. To be honest, I wanted to create something that would make people uncomfortable. In doing so, I wanted them to ask myself why follow the herds in the first place. During the production process, I was immersed in a variety of art, including works by Basquiat, surrealistic films directed by David Lynch, Louis Buñuel and Stanley Kubrick, music by Bjork, Death Grips and Bad Brains. It is said that the human body is made from what you eat, and as you say, I devoured art like a meal. This is a work that I came to after a luxurious meal.”

With an unwavering resolve to break the status quo, WHO SHOT SCOTT has created an intuitive artwork. The chaotic sound perfectly matches the breathtaking visuals directed by his award-winning longtime collaborator, Connor Pritchard. The two teams not only highlight this EP, but also created a video experience that amplifies its message. The abstract, uncompromising footage clearly shows the film’s philosophy of “breaking the system.”

WHO SHOT SCOTT, Zaidoon Nasir, also known as Zaidoon Nasir, began his musical journey in a childhood when he escaped war-torn Iraq with his mother and moved to New Zealand. A double sense of identity, “Too Iraqi for a New Zealander and Too New Zealander for an Iraqi” was already seen in the early songwriters recorded on my grandmother’s tape recorder. After working internationally as a duo called Times x Two, they made their debut as WHO SHOT SCOTT in 2020. He projected his own experience into a bold, innovative sound.

WHO SHOT SCOTT has released EPs such as “MERCY”, “MERCY II”, “MERCY III”, and “BRAIN (SIDE A)”. Both have been highly praised for their fierce experimentality and fearless expressiveness. Rolling Stone Australia has selected him as one of eight artists expected to be successful worldwide.
