The second stage performance of “Private Detective Hama Mike – Stairs of a Distant Era” starring Ryuji Sato will be performed in February 2025, 30 years after the movie was released.

The “Private Detective Hama Mike” movie series is a hard-boiled detective series based on the original work by film director Kaizo Hayashi and starring Masatoshi Nagase. The second part of the series, which will be performed as a reading in 2021 and the first part will be adapted into a stage play in 2022, will be released in 2025, 30 years after the movie was released, titled “Private Detective Hama Mike – Stairs of a Distant Era”. It was decided that the performance would be performed as follows.

Ryuji Sato will continue to play the leading role of Mike Hama. This will be Sato’s first appearance since he turned 30.

The performance will take place in February 2025. Scheduled to be performed at Sunshine Theater in Tokyo, COOL JAPAN PARK OSAKA TT Hall in Osaka, and Wink Aichi in Aichi. More information coming soon!

The screenplay and direction are by Daisuke Nishida, and the songs in the play are by Motoyoshi Tai.

▼Synopsis:

Detective Mike Hama’s office is on the second floor of a movie theater in Koganecho, Yokohama. The requests that came to him were all boring.

At that time, Mike catches a rumor that his mother, Lily, who disappeared after abandoning young Mike and Akane’s siblings, has returned to this town, so Mike goes to see her without telling Akane. Mike is furious when Lily says she wants to call herself Akane as her mother.

Meanwhile, a conflict breaks out in the town over the rights to the river. The river is divided by a “white man” who neither the police nor the yakuza can touch, and anyone who tries to violate it will be wiped out by his gang.

And then there was another victim. Nakayama of Isezaki Police Station, who knows the culprit but cannot find any evidence, uses a microphone to keep an eye on Sachiko, the mother of Akane’s classmate Kyoko, who seems to have connections with the White Man. However, her connection to the white man was revealed by Mike, and she was killed by a fake drowning. Mike is also targeted for life, but after hearing from Lily that Mike’s real father is a white man, he ignores the danger and, guided by the legendary prostitute Mary, rides into the white man’s hideout. When Mike questions him about the truth, the white man becomes confused.

The showdown between the two was decided by a game of Russian roulette. The white man collapses, and the pained cries of his subordinate Sugimoto echo through the hideout.
