Avex and Ryuichi Sakamoto founded the music label commons in 2006 as a joint project. Contains 20 songs selected by Ryuichi Sakamoto himself, including the famous songs “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”, “The Last Emperor”, songs from his last original album “12”, and “Tong Poo” from his Yellow Magic Orchestra days. Born in Tokyo in 1952. In 1978, he made his solo debut with “A Thousand Knives”. In the same year, he participated in the formation of “Yellow Magic Orchestra”, and even after disbanding in 1983, he has been active in various fields. He won the British Academy Award for the music for the movie “Merry Christmas” (1983), the Academy Award for Original Music Composition, the Grammy Award, and others for the music for the movie “The Last Emperor.” He is involved in many environmental and peace issues, and founded the forest conservation organization “More Trees.” He also supported the victims of the Tohoku Pacific Coast Earthquake through music, such as by founding the “Tohoku Youth Orchestra.” From the 1980s to the 2000s, he participated in many exhibitions and large-scale media video events, and served as artistic director of the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) in 2013, and guest director of the Sapporo International Art Festival in 2014.
