Making & Interview
In the TV commercial, in addition to store manager Kenichi Matsuyama, Natsumi Tsunoda and Hina Hayata appear for the first time. The new commercial is full of highlights, including the scene where Tsunoda throws a giant drink and Hayata’s powerful smash into the drink.
In front of a Lawson store with a winter atmosphere, Matsuyama appeared wearing a red and white hat and a Santa hat, Tsunoda in a judo uniform, and Hayata in a uniform. When Matsuyama tries to explain the Hapi Toku Festival by saying, “If you buy bread for 350 yen now!”, Tsunoda grabs a giant drink and throws the giant drink vigorously, saying “Drink!!”. Matsuyama also held a drink and called out, “Ippon!!”, and Hayata got into a smash stance and did a quick smash into the drink, saying, “Get me smash!!” At the end, Matsuyama shouts “Kyoretsu!!” and Matsuyama, Tsunoda, and Hayata remind each other of the Happy Festival.
In an interview after filming, Matsuyama was asked about his impressions of Tsunoda and Hayata, and said, “I had seen them fighting in real time on TV, so being able to actually meet them live really got me excited. I was able to listen to a lot of things in between filming, so it was very interesting.I think today was truly one of my best memories of the year.”
Hayata, who is appearing in a Lawson commercial for the first time, talked about his impressions of Matsuyama, saying, “I thought that he was different from us in areas such as the tone of his voice, and while we were reshooting many times, Matsuyama… I passed the exam on the first try, which I thought was really amazing. “I was nervous before filming,” he said, adding, “The first scene, “Happiro at Lawson!,” really made me laugh out loud, and I think it created a sense of unity in the scene, and I felt a lot better about myself. I was grateful for Matsuyama’s concern, saying, “It made us all feel less nervous.”
Tsunoda, who is trying out a commercial for the first time, said, “I made some adjustments as I threw the tomoe several times, but then I gradually started thinking, “Maybe I’m not good at tomoe throwing,” so I started throwing the tomoe a little bit. I think I’ll review it…lol,” he said, eliciting laughter as he mentioned the unexpected revision of his signature move.
Furthermore, regarding what is important to overcome pressure and tension, Matsuyama said, “There are overwhelmingly more people on the other side of the camera, so I get nervous. I’ve been able to forget things little by little, and I feel like things have gotten easier from there.” Hayata said, “I’m the type of person who gets so nervous before a match that my hands and feet get cold like ice, but the moment I hear my name called out and enter the match, a switch is turned on. I’m only thinking about how I can win in this match, so I always play with the mindset that if I lose, I won’t have any regrets.” Tsunoda said, “When I get nervous, my hands and feet sweat a lot, but when I go up on the judo tatami mat, I go barefoot, so if my feet get sweaty, I might slip and fall. While thinking about this, I decided to put my feet on the ground and get on the tatami mat.I decided to erase all the anxiety and get on the tatami floor.” said.
Finally, when asked how he could describe 2024 in one word, Matsuyama said, “heart-moving.” “I think being moved is what makes people feel good. There are people whose hearts were moved by Mr. Hayata’s success and Mr. Tsunoda’s success, such as wanting to take up table tennis, wanting to try it, or wanting to try judo. I think there are a lot of people out there, and that is what gives them purpose and vitality in their daily lives. I think it’s wonderful to be able to do something that moves people through dramas and movies, so I hope that it will give the people who are watching it some vitality in their daily lives. I hope I can enjoy myself as well,” he said in summary.
In addition to the TV commercial, this time, a cute dance video of the two athletes that gives you a glimpse of their off-duty mood will also be distributed on Lawson’s official SNS. The content is full of cuteness, with Tsunoda in a judo uniform and Hayata in a uniform dancing to music with a festival feel.

Q: After filming the commercial, please tell us your impressions and the highlights of the commercial.
This time I was able to see both of them live, so I was very happy. This year was also a year in which everyone did a great job, and we were truly moved and moved. He is a hero representing Japan. I think everyone thought that way, so I’m honored.
Q: This is your first time co-starring with Hayata and Tsunoda, so please tell us your impressions of them.
I had watched Hayata-san fight in real time on TV, so being able to actually meet him live really got me excited. It was very interesting because I was able to hear a lot of behind-the-scenes stories between shots, but I felt like not just me but all the staff members here wanted to have some kind of connection with Mr. Hayata. Mr. Tsunoda’s Tomoe Nage and Mr. Hayata’s Smash had an extremely large number of cuts. Since it was the real thing, it would have been enough to do it once, but people wanted to keep it fresh in their minds, so they did it one more time and one more time. I think today was truly the best memory of this year.
Q: What are your impressions after meeting Mr. Matsuyama?
When I met Mr. Matsuyama, I realized that he is different from us in areas such as the tone of his voice, as he has been doing this kind of work and acting as an actor for decades. While we were reshooting the film, Mr. Matsuyama passed on the first try, which I thought was really amazing. The first episode, “Happiro at Lawson!” really made us laugh out loud, and it created a sense of unity in the room, and it also relieved our tension.
When I actually met Mr. Matsuyama, I had a scary image of him, but when I met him, he was kind and seemed to ease our nerves, and I realized that this is the kind of professionalism he has. Ta.
Q: This will be your first appearance in a Lawson commercial. Please tell us how you felt when you heard the commercial offer and what you thought about shooting the commercial.
I’ve always had Lawson around me since I was little, and I used to go to Lawson before going to games and going to practice, so it was really incredible for me to be featured in a Lawson commercial. I was filled with joy. I was really happy to be able to meet Mr. Tsunoda and Mr. Matsuyama in this way, and to have them all shoot such wonderful footage.
Q: This is your first attempt at a commercial, how was it? Also, please tell us your impressions after the shooting.
I was reminded once again that they borrowed the help of so many people and spent so much time preparing and filming, and I felt that the commercial was filled with everyone’s thoughts. .
As I tried tomoe a few times, I thought, “Oh, this isn’t right,” and made some adjustments, but then I gradually realized, “Maybe I’m not good at tomoe,” I think I’ll rewatch Tomoe Nage… (lol)
Q: Please tell us what you value and what you are conscious of in order to overcome pressure situations.
Even when I’m acting or speaking, there are far more people on the other side of the camera, so I get nervous. In a sense, it’s like pressure. However, little by little I’ve been able to forget about the situation I’m currently in, and I feel like I’ve gotten better from there. If you are stiff, you may not be able to speak in the first place, and your acting may become stiff. So even in the acting I’ve been doing up until now, I try to forget the situation I’m in.
I’m the type of person who gets so nervous before a match that my hands and feet get cold like ice, but as soon as I hear my name being called out for the match, I get turned on. The battle will be decided regardless of whether I’m good or bad, so I just have to do what I can to the best of my ability. It’s hard to do what you haven’t practiced in a match, so I’m concentrating on showing off what I’ve been practicing. I’m only thinking about how I can win using the skills I have, so rather than thinking about pressure or what I’ll do if I lose, I try to avoid regrets by thinking that there’s nothing I can do if I lose. I always play the game keeping in mind what I have to do.
When I get nervous, my hands and feet sweat a lot, but when I go up on the judo tatami mat, I go barefoot, so if my feet get sweaty, I might slip and fall, so I keep that in mind as well. I want to put my feet up and get on the tatami. Negative thoughts come up, but I have decided to erase all the anxiety and get on the tatami mat, so when I get on the tatami mat, I believe in what I’ve been doing up until now and just do what I can. I am trying to fight to do this.
Q: There are only a few days left until 2024, but if you could describe 2024 in one word, what would it be?
It is written as “kodo” that moves the heart. It really moved me. I think that emotion is what makes people feel good. It makes me want to work hard starting tomorrow. I think there are many people who have been moved by Hayata-san’s successes and Tsunoda-san’s successes to want to take up table tennis, or to try judo. I think it’s wonderful that this can lead to a sense of purpose and vitality in daily life. I also do work that moves people’s hearts and makes them move through dramas and movies, so I hope to be able to bring energy to the people who watch it and enjoy myself as well. I did.
