The world premiere off-shot footage of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s solo piano concert piece “Opus” (pronounced: Opus), which was streamed on August 9th (Friday), was released on YouTube today.

Opus Behind The Scene Vol.1

“Opus” is the last piano solo concert work left by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28, 2023, before leaving this world. Contains 20 songs that Ryuichi Sakamoto himself selected as “songs that he should leave behind at the end of his life,” including songs from his original album “12” and “Tong Poo” from his Yellow Magic Orchestra days.

This work was also nominated for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album at the 67th Grammy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025 (Japan time: February 3, 2025). The awards will be announced at the 67th Grammy Awards Ceremony. The off-shot footage shows Ryuichi Sakamoto’s true nature, which is completely different from what he shows on stage, and will be distributed on the label commons’ YouTube every day from today until Christmas.

In addition, the special site for “Opus” also features an interview with engineer ZAK, as well as behind-the-scenes stories from staff members who worked on the film, including director Oto Sora and piano tuner Takeshi Sakai.

Additionally, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo will hold the event “Ryuichi Sakamoto | Seeing Sound, Listening to Time” from Saturday, December 21, 2024 to Sunday, March 30, 2025.
