“Ryuichi Sakamoto | Birthday Premium Night 2025” special screening will be held at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku again this year! There will also be a fantastic documentary screening!

At 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, where Ryuichi Sakamoto supervised the sound, a special screening of three related works that trace the trajectory of Ryuichi Sakamoto will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s birthday, “Ryuichi Sakamoto | Birthday Premium Night 2025” will be held.

“Tokyo Melody Ryuichi Sakamoto” (1985/French production) 4K restored version

A fantastic documentary made in the mid-1980s, when he achieved worldwide success as a member of YMO and then developed innovative music activities as a solo artist. This is the first opportunity in Japan to view the 4K restored version of this work, which depicts the creative trajectory of musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.

“Ryuichi Sakamoto: CODA” (2017)

A documentary that follows the story of his encounter with a piano that was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, his life fighting illness, and the production of his first original album in eight years, “async.” We take a closer look at his later activities, where experimental musicality and deep social insight intersect.

“Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus” (2024)

A full-length concert film documenting Ryuichi Sakamoto’s final piano solo performances. We will deliver a gem of a performance that is the culmination of more than half a century of musical activities.

At the venue, 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, you can enjoy the sound design by Ryuichi Sakamoto and the lounge music and chimes he composed for this movie theater during his lifetime.

The 4K restored version of “Tokyo Melody Ryuichi Sakamoto”, which will be released for the first time in Japan, will be screened as a special screening only on this day! (Domestic release date undecided)

Tickets will go on sale from 0:00 on Thursday, January 9th, and seats are limited to 121.
