The 13-member boy band “XY” (pronounced: X-Y), a versatile and unique band produced by YOSHIKI, released their first “amoeba-style” digital single “YG” by the five band members today, and the music video has also been unveiled.
XY is made up of 13 members in total, five in the band group and eight in the dance and vocal group. While they each perform their own activities, members move fluidly between the two groups, changing form like an amoeba, making them a very rare and unique male group.
Although they have shown off their versatile style at events and live shows in the past, this will be the first time they release a digital single in the “Ameba style.”
The original version of this work, “YG,” is the first song that YOSHI wrote with his current band members KYOHEY, KAIRI, and FURUTATSU, after he had just passed away at the young age of 19 in an accident while his debut as the vocalist of the band XY was scheduled.
The original song didn’t even have a title at the time, but GAI, the vocalist who joined the band later, completed it and named it “YG,” combining the “Y” from YOSHI and the “G” from GAI.
Although they only met YOSHI once in person, KARMA spoke passionately about their feelings for YOSHI during the audition, and instead of joining the dance and vocal team as initially planned, they ended up joining the band. KARMA sings together with GAI in a twin vocal format.
Despite carrying unimaginable and unbelievable pain and sadness in their hearts, the five band members decided to move forward in order to fulfill their promise to YOSHI, creating a song that shows the bond between the band members. It is a heavy rock number befitting the band’s debut song.
It has already been holding the No. 1 spot on the iTunes alternative chart since early this morning, and is gradually climbing the all-genre charts, currently standing at No. 27. (As of 6/7 18:00)
YG’s music video was created with the theme of “resistance.”
In today’s world where it seems like they are easily influenced by the masses and society, the song conveys a strong message that XY will resist this, create their own individuality, and go on to create an expression that only they can come up with.

The second “Ameba Style” single, “GET STUPID” by an eight-member dance and vocal group, will be released on Friday, June 14th.
XY will hold their first solo concert at ZEPP DiverCity on Saturday, June 29th.
