On the 9th, idol group SUPER☆GiRLS held their 14th anniversary live house tour “SUPER☆GiRLS Live House Tour 2024 ~How about 200% love?~/~Tobikiri Supaga is Summer-like~” at HEAVEN’S ROCK Kumagaya VJ-1 in Saitama, and livened up the first day of the live tour which will see eight performances in four cities across the country.
SUPER☆GiRLS was formed in 2010, and yesterday, June 12th, marked the 14th anniversary of its formation and the 3rd anniversary of the debut of its 5th generation members.
Having released 30 singles to date, and successfully held solo concerts at the Nippon Budokan and numerous idol festivals, the group is an indispensable part of the Japanese idol scene.
In January 2023, five 6th generation members joined, and the group is now in its “6th Chapter” and consists of a total of nine members.
They are affectionately known by idol fans as “Supaga,” and the singles they release every summer are so refreshing and high quality that they are often described as “Summer Supaga.”
On the 17th of next month, they will be releasing their 31st single, “Tobikiridare yori Natsu-shoku Koto,” which will write a new page in the history of “Summer Supaga.”
This year, summer came early for Supaga.
On the 9th, the live house tour kicked off with a packed house of fans at HEAVEN’S ROCK Kumagaya VJ-1.
For this tour, the first part will be subtitled “How about a 200% Love?” and the second part will be subtitled “Tobikiri Supaga is Summer-like”, and the set lists will be significantly changed for each part.
The live house tour kicked off with their latest single “Tobikiridare yori Natsumo ishikoto,” which will be released next month.
Centered around 6th generation member Kashiwa Ayana, who serves as the group’s first solo center, the group’s refreshing yet bittersweet lyrics and melody, as well as catchy choreography that involves waving to each and every member of the audience, leave a strong impression from the first moment you see it.
Right from the first song, the venue’s excitement soared with the stunning performance.
The new uniform costumes will also be unveiled for the first time at this performance.
The clean and sharp gray check pattern and white puff sleeves create a stylish look. The large navy ribbon around the collar adds a cute touch.
Seventh generation leader Nanami Takeuchi confidently announced, “For the first part, we’ve brought a love setlist!” And just as she had done, the group started off with a flurry of songs that express the sweet love that Supaga is so proud of, such as “Love Manifesto” and “Love Rules.”
Their stable singing voices, which make the most of the richness of each member’s voice, and their dynamic, expressive dancing make them stand out even in the highly competitive idol world.
At this concert, the coupling song of the latest single “Tobi Natsu”, “What Color Is the Sky Now?” was performed for the first time.
For this song, the older members of the group, 4th generation members Sakabayashi Kana and Kadobayashi Yuha, serve as double centers, and the choreography was done by former member and 1st generation member Watanabe Hikaru.
During the MC before their first performance, Kadobayashi confessed how nervous he was, saying, “I feel like I’m going to turn pale (laughs),” but Sakabayashi responded by encouraging him, “It’ll be fine! We’ve practiced a lot, everyone!”
This song is sprinkled with elements of choreography from Supaga’s past songs, as if tracing the group’s history, resulting in an emotional finish.
Sakabayashi said with a bitter smile, “I could really sense from the fans that either I or Kadobayashi was going to graduate (laughs).”
“Don’t worry. I’m not graduating! (laughs)” she answered confidently, and the audience erupted in cheers and applause with “Whoa!!”
Takeuchi then asked with a grin, “You’re going on a four-city tour, right? So I’d like to hold a meeting to teach you some local heart-melting lines, but is it okay for me to represent Saitama? (laughs)”
Kashiwa, a 6th generation member from Saitama, said with a troubled look on her face, “Ayachin, it’s going to be cold tonight alone,” to which Kamata, who grew up in Saitama, replied, “In that case, won’t you go out with me?”, delivering a heart-melting line in Saitama dialect.
The youngest member of the group, Habuchi Karen, and the leader, Takeuchi, were even asked to perform some unreasonable moves, creating a warm atmosphere in the venue.
Afterwards, Sakabayashi shouted, “We’re entering the last block, but can we keep the excitement going? Can you let out some crazy cheers?”, which elicited a roar-like response of “Oh!!” and from this point on, it was Supaga’s turn to dominate the show.
The set list was a mix of old and new songs, and the excitement in the venue reached its peak.
The opening of the live house tour, where fans and band members came together, ended with great success.
SUPER☆GiRLS will be touring Osaka and Aichi this weekend.
How will the band evolve with each performance until the final one at duo MUSIC EXCHANGE in Tokyo on the 30th of this month?
Expectations are building for this tour, which gives fans a taste of “Summer Supaga” a little early.
