“MEET YOUR ART” is an art project centered around art-focused programming, with over 67,000 subscribers on its YouTube channel.
This time, the program will feature sculptor Gensho Sugawara, who works on the theme of “texture and materials”!
Appearing as the show’s first guest, Sugawara will delve into how he has changed and evolved over the past three years, and the importance of “touch” that he has felt through his creative endeavors to date. He will also explore his reasons for using unglazed pottery as a new material for his works.
We will also explore the works being exhibited at “5 SENSES at WALL_alternative,” an art project in which Sugawara is involved as the artist in charge of the tactile part, and is co-created by five artists with the premium gin brand “Bombay Sapphire” and “MEET YOUR ART,” on the theme of the five senses.
“5SENSES at WALL_alternative,” in which Sugawara Gensho is participating, is being held in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo until the 29th of this month (Sat).
We hope you will take this opportunity to experience Sugawara’s work.

Gensho Sugawara
Born in Tokyo in 1993. With the theme of “texture and tactility,” he presents sculptures using FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) and clay as the main materials. Since last year, alongside his traditional work using FRP as the main material, he has been working on expressions using unglazed terracotta, using clay used in pottery making as a new material. Based on his own primal experiences, Sugawara is attempting to reconsider the surface nature of sculpture by visualizing the tactile elements of clay and the process by which his works are created.
