[GENERATIONS Ryota Katayose]Visiting the studio of a contemporary artist! We get up close and personal with artist Yuji Suga at Studio Kodai, the largest shared studio in the Kanto region.

“MEET YOUR ART” is an art project centered around an art-focused program on a YouTube channel with approximately 70,000 subscribers.
In[THE BASE]the host, Ryota Katayose (GENERETIONS), visits the ateliers and production sites where artists start out.

This time, Ryota Katayose (GENERATIONS) visits Studio Kodai, the largest shared atelier in the Kanto region!
The video released today takes a close look at artist Suga Yuji, whose unique style of creating paintings is achieved by combining “drawing” and “carving.”
We will delve deep into topics ranging from anecdotes from his student days, the process of creating his works, the background to the development of his current techniques, and his relationships with his fellow members of the shared atelier.



Suga’s work, which was introduced in this video, will be exhibited at Tokyo Gendai, which starts tomorrow.
In addition, Studio Kodai, the studio to which Suga belongs, is scheduled to exhibit at the MEET YOUR ART FESTIVAL 2024 to be held in October.
I would like everyone to come and see Suga’s works for themselves at each venue.

[Yushi Suga]

He completed his Master’s degree in Oil Painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. By incorporating tranquil, solid structures reminiscent of modernist architecture into his paintings, he draws attention to both sides of space, and is conducting contemporary spatialist experiments. He is a young painter who creates impressive negative-positive expressions by applying a mirror surface to the entire surface of the painting, applying paint evenly thereon, and then scraping off parts of the paint to compose the subject.
