Kitaro, who is active around the world, has resumed his world tour for the first time in seven years since the COVID-19 pandemic.
They performed live at the Arena Of Stars, Resorts World Genting in Malaysia on June 23rd, followed by two days at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on June 25th and 26th, headlining Malaysia’s largest music festival, RAIN FOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024 on June 28th, and performing at the Kaohsiung Music Center in Taiwan on June 30th, selling out all the venues and finishing their Asia tour with great success.
Kitaro, a Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner, has had epic world tours, with each venue accommodating between 3,000 and 5,000 people, with the festival in Malaysia catering for over 15,000 people.
Kitaro not only plays the keyboard, but also the guitar, electric sitar and Japanese drums, and performs music across all genres, beautifully fusing classical, jazz, rock and world music.
Supporting the tour will be Araki Hiroshi, who has appeared in the tour vans of numerous live shows for the likes of Takao Kisugi, Machiko Watanabe, Miki Asakura, Momoko Kikuchi, Miki Imai, and Mayumi Itsuwa, and who played electric guitar on “Kojiki,” keyboardist Stephen Small, who came from New Zealand and participated in Kitaro’s Symphony World Tour as a conductor, and Kashima Shizuka, who has been praised as an itinerant violinist and, since her major debut, has overturned concepts of classical instruments, captivating people with her performances that transcend genres. Kitaro will also play music of other genres, performing sessions with instruments other than synthesizers, such as guitar against guitar, keyboard against synthesizer, violin and Japanese drums, electric guitar, and flute.
Also, there will be a session with “Norimaru” of the Japanese drum duo “Kurobyoshi,” who reconstructs the possibilities of drums through collaborations with Asian performing arts, Western musical instruments, electronic music, theater, and dancers; butoh dancer “Yurika Shibano,” who won first place in the National Western Dance Competition and the New Choreographer Award at the 2020 Selected New Dance Performance, and is currently active as a soloist on a world tour, will fuse KITARO’s music with a world rooted in Japanese Zen thought and traditional Japanese culture, and will add a touch of glamour to the world of KITARO with footage of precious space recordings provided by NASA, elevating it to the height of entertainment.
The live performance combines realistic performance with rare images of planets and galaxies, taking the audience on a mystical journey that transcends time and space, and providing an emotional experience that is almost like a purification of the soul.
It is not just an ordinary concert that makes you reaffirm your own smallness and greatness in the universe, but a great entertainment that gives you a deeper awareness and sensitivity about life, the universe, and everything.
In addition, “Zen: Live In Katsuyama,” a video and music album of last year’s live performance at Echizen Daibutsu, which has the same set list as the impressive live performance on the Asia tour, is currently on sale.
