It has been decided that “Sausages”, a play that revives Shakespeare’s shortest play, “The Comedy of Errors”, as a modern slapstick comedy colored by rock music, will be performed at the Hakuhinkan Theater in Ginza from October 10th (Thursday) to the 27th (Sunday). A new script will be written to bring out the essence of the original work, which is set in a fictional place and time and unfolds all human emotions on stage, such as sadness, suffering, humor, joy, and ecstasy.
The cast will include Haruse Akune of ICEx, an eight-member dance and vocal unit that made its major debut in August 2023, who will be making its first lead role in a stage production, Ryosuke Yagami, and Shuto Haga and Shunta Kondo of Lienel, a six-member main vocal and dance group formed after EBiDAN AUDITION. Akune will play the role of Antipholas, the younger brother who travels from Syracuse to Ephesus in search of his long-lost family, Yagami will play the role of Dromio, Kondo will play the role of Antipholas, the older brother who lives in Ephesus, and Haga will play the role of Dromio.
Akune said, “I read the script and was drawn into the story, and I want to live in this work,” while Yagami said, “I hope this work will change me,” Haga said, “I want to carefully portray the brotherly love that overcomes various hardships and convey it to everyone,” and Kondo said, “I want to reinterpret Shakespeare’s themes and emotions from my current perspective and convey them to everyone.” Other cast members who will add color to the story include Kageyama Yasushi in the role of the father, Egeon, Kato Yuka in the role of “brother Antipholus'” wife, Shuhama Harumi in the role of the abbess Emilia, and Komada Hajime in the role of the marquis, Solinus. This work depicts the turmoil caused by twin brothers who have been separated and the twin servants who serve them. The script and direction are by Katsuhide Suzuki, and the music is original by Goro Oshima, with rock music, creating a refreshing new interpretation of the stage production. Suzuki expressed his enthusiasm for the production, saying, “I will revive Shakespeare’s shortest play, The Comedy of Errors, as a slapstick comedy of the utmost nonsense, colored by nostalgic pop music (originally by Goro Oshima).”
The play “Sausage” will run from Thursday, October 10th to Sunday, October 27th, 2024 at the Hakuhinkan Theater in Ginza. Advance tickets will go on sale from 12:00 on Friday, August 9th, 2024, and general tickets will go on sale from 10:00 on Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Other details about the performance will be updated regularly on the official website.

● Atsushi Akune (ICEx)
When I was asked to appear in the film, I was very happy but also very worried.
I have very little experience in acting, so I wonder if I can take the lead as the leader and pull everyone in the company along?
I was feeling very anxious at the time and couldn’t come up with an answer easily.
However, when I read the script, I was drawn into the story and strongly felt that “I want to live in this play. I want to capture the hearts of those who come to see the play,” so I decided to take on the challenge.
Using my experience, I will improve myself more than ever and do my best to play the younger brother Antipholus, a role that only I can play! I will work hand in hand with everyone in the company and do my best to deliver this work! In October, we will show you a new Akune Atsushi! Everyone, please look forward to it!
●Ryosuke Yagami (ICEx)
First of all, I feel very honored to be involved in such a wonderful production.
For someone as inexperienced as me, my first stage performance will certainly be a big challenge, but I hope that this production will somehow change me.
I hope to absorb a lot from the other cast members I will be working with, and I will do my best to work with everyone involved in this production to make it the best it can be!
●Haga Shuto (Lienel)
We will carefully portray the brotherly love that overcomes various hardships and deliver it to you all.
This is my first time performing on stage, so I’m very nervous, but I’ll do my best!
Thank you very much!
● Shunta Kondo (Lienel)
This is my first time acting in a play, and I’m very happy that the first production I’m involved in is the play “Sausage”! I hope to be able to reinterpret Shakespeare’s themes and emotions from my current perspective and deliver them to everyone.
I will approach this work and my brother Antipholus seriously and do my best.
I look forward to sharing this play and the charm of Shakespeare with you all!
●Yuka Kato
After reading the script, I was drawn into the world of “sausages”!
What’s going on?! I get a little confused, but it’s fun.
I’m really looking forward to seeing “The Comedy of Errors” become a musical! I think it will be a new challenge for me! I hope I can put on a fun performance that will put a smile on the faces of everyone who sees it! I look forward to seeing you all!
●Shuhama Harumi
I am extremely honoured to be invited to appear in a Suzukatsu production for the second time and to work with Yasushi Kageyama again.
According to the script, one person will play multiple roles and will change costumes on stage. I’m really looking forward to seeing what kind of direction Suzukatsu has in mind.
This work is based on “The Comedy of Errors,” but it is more modern than Shakespeare.
I think you’ll enjoy it as a British comedy!
●Hajime Komada
Suzukatsu-san and Goro-san. This is my second work with these two this year.
As for the cast, this will be my first time acting with everyone. It will be new encounters. I’m really looking forward to it.
The original story for this piece is about a man who appeared in a musical adaptation when he was in a theater company.
That was 37 or 38 years ago. It was a very interesting piece. This time, too, we will struggle, worry, and suffer in the rehearsal room, and then have fun! Yes, I’m sure it will be an interesting piece! Please look forward to it!
● Yasushi Kageyama
The play is based on Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors.”
This is a work that is not at all stuffy and is simply enjoyable to watch and laugh at.
I want to convey to the audience the joy of this work, which draws you in to the story. I’m looking forward to working with the young actors for the first time, and to working with Shuhama-san again after “Tsubakisetsu Sanjuushi.” I’m also looking forward to Katsuhide Suzuki’s direction.
●Script and direction by Katsuhide Suzuki
This time, I will be reciting Shakespeare’s shortest play, “The Comedy of Errors,” in a nostalgic setting.
The film is reborn as a slapstick comedy of the height of nonsense, enriched by pop music (original by Goro Oshima).
We will let you know.
The two sets of twin brothers, who are made to look identical with each other through hair and makeup, are the fixed characters, but the other
The cast changes roles frequently.
Rather than an introduction to Shakespeare’s works, I am thinking of making it stand as a separate piece of work.
▼Synopsis:
A Syracuse merchant, Egeon, had twin sons and twin servants. However, when the sons were young, they were separated from their wife, brother, and servant’s brother. The younger brother, Antipholas, visits Ephesus with his father, Egeon, to search for his brother, Antipholas.
At that time, Syracuse and Ephesus were in conflict with each other. Father Egeon was arrested and arrested for trespassing. He was to pay a fine of 1000 marks or face the death penalty. Duke Solinus gave Egeon only one day to raise the bail money.
Antipholas, the younger brother, wanders around Ephesus with his servant Dromio in search of his older brother. Meanwhile, Antipholas, after parting ways with his father, has prospered in Ephesus with his servant Dromio, married Adriana, and is living there.
When Antipholas is mistaken for his older brother, Antipholas, a successful man in town, a series of mistakes leads to Antipholas’ arrest. At the execution ground, the brothers are reunited with their father, Egeon.
Furthermore, it turns out that the abbess of Ephesus is Aemilia, the mother of Antipholus. With the permission of Duke Solinus, a feast is held to celebrate the family reunion.
