Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28, 2023, released his final piano solo concert work “Opus” before leaving this world today, Friday, August 9th. The audio work is from the film “Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus,” which is currently being shown nationwide. You can listen to 20 songs selected by Sakamoto himself, including the classic “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence,” songs from Sakamoto’s final album “12,” and “Tong Poo,” which was performed for the first time as a piano solo during his YMO days. The film was shown at the Venice International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, and Tokyo International Film Festival, and has become a hot topic around the world, attracting 40,000 viewers in Korea in the 10 days since its release.
It was also announced that a packaged version of “Opus” will be released on December 11th. “Opus” contains 20 songs that Sakamoto selected as the final songs he wanted to leave behind. The crew he trusted completely included director Sora Oto, cinematographer Bill Kirstein, sound engineer ZAK, editor Takuya Kawakami, and lighting technician Yukiko Yoshimoto.
At the same time, a special website for “Opus” was opened. “In Commemoration of Opus” by Masafumi Suzuki, who was the listener for the autobiography “Boku wa ato nankai, mangetsu wo miru darou” (How many times will I see the full moon again?), is published. Also, commentary on all the songs by Susumu Kunizaki, director of Rittorbase, is published. Please check it out along with the audio.
