The next generation of handsome triplets and beautiful twins?! An interview with the Sato brothers and Hannami Ina!

Have you heard of the handsome identical triplets “Sato Brothers” and the beautiful identical twins “Hanna Miina”?

Both groups are affiliated with Avex Management Agency, and due to the rarity of having triplets and twins in the same agency, they are steadily gaining popularity as the next generation of popular talent.

The three Sato brothers are identical triplets who are synchronized acrobatic performers: the eldest brother, Ayato, the second brother, Hayato, and the third brother, Yoshito. The three brothers pursued rhythmic gymnastics from an early age and graduated from Aomori University, a prestigious gymnastics institution. Armed with the skills they developed there and their perfectly synchronized “synchronized acrobatics,” the acrobatic videos they posted on social media became a hot topic, and they currently boast a total of 3.2 million followers on social media.

Hanna Miina is an identical twin influencer talent consisting of an older sister, Hona, and a younger sister, Mina. Born in the United States and raised in Germany, they are fluent in English and are both currently attending Aoyama Gakuin University. A lip-sync video of the twin sisters moving their mouths to music went viral on TikTok, and in just three months their number of followers increased by 250,000, to over 600,000 today.

We spoke to the identical triplets and twins, who have created a buzz on social media and are aiming to make a breakthrough as members of Avex, about what inspired them to start posting on social media, their achievements so far, and their goals for the future.

–I’d like you to introduce yourself to each other, but first please tell us about Ayato, one of the three Sato brothers.

YoshitoAyato has the kindest heart of anyone and is a bright, energetic person like the sun!

Next, what kind of person is Hayato?

AyatoHayato is the most stoic and serious of the three, and it is no exaggeration to say that he is the one who scolds the others.

HayatoI’m not very happy (laughs).

AyatoI don’t mean this in a bad way, but in a very good way, as it gets the three of us back on track and shows us the way towards one dream!

-What is your impression of Yoshito?

HayatoHe is the leader of the three Sato brothers and has the broadest perspective. He is very observant of his surroundings and is a very good and considerate boy!

–It seems like each of you three are different types of people, but do you usually fight?

YoshitoI do it every day. But I make up with him after 3 seconds!

By the way, who takes the lead in taking care of household chores etc. when you live together?

HayatoMy second son (Hayato) and third son (Yoshito) are mainly in charge of washing the dishes, cleaning, and taking out the trash.

–Next up, Hanna and Miina! Please introduce us to Hanna and Miina!

MiinaHanna’s best points are her ability to prioritize things. She always keeps to deadlines, and I think it’s great that she can fit in anywhere and enjoy anything without overthinking it too much.

–On the other hand, is Miina’s character different?

HannaMiina is the type of person who pursues quality, and that’s something I respect. So I hope we can combine our interests and create good content.
I’m the type of person who can have fun anywhere, but Miina tends to think about the future quite a bit. For example, if it gets a little late, her mind fills with thoughts of having to get home quickly, and she can’t enjoy the moment to the fullest, so I think that’s quite different from me.

MiinaI’m the type of person who doesn’t like to regret something later, so even if I’m having fun at the time, when I have to go home I go home, but Hanna is the type of person who wants to just enjoy herself.

HannaMiina is the type who thinks calmly and deeply, but I think I’m more optimistic than her.

MiinaI have the impression that Hanna is a bit of an airhead.

HannaDoes your eldest son, Ayato, also seem like a natural?

YoshitoThe eldest son seems to be a bit of a frivolous person, so the third son can’t tolerate that.

What do you keep in mind when creating content?

HannaWe are conscious of the schedule and make an effort to complete the work on time.

MiinaOn the contrary, I focus on quality and try to create videos that will be watched by as many people as possible.

–Next, I’d like to ask each of the Sato brothers what inspired them to start their activities and how they ended up in this industry.

HayatoI wanted to become a performer using men’s rhythmic gymnastics and the fact that I’m a triplet, so when I was in my fourth year of university, the three of us started TikTok hoping that it would be a good opportunity. It received a huge response and we were scouted by Avex.

–That post went viral quite early on, right?

HayatoIt reached 1 million in about a month and a half.

YoshitoAt the time, I was living a normal college life, but the notifications on my smartphone kept ringing and I wondered if I had gone crazy. (laughs)

–Since you started while you were still playing, what kind of reaction did you get from your friends in the club and at university?

AyatoI got a lot of comments from people saying, “That’s amazing!”
I was happy that a room was created in my university dorm just for TikTok and everyone cooperated.

–When you joined Avex at that time, did you have any goals or challenges you wanted to take on?

YoshitoWe originally said that we wanted to be performers, but we thought Avex was an agency that excelled in entertainment such as music, so we joined the company thinking that by incorporating singing and dancing into our performances, we could create even better performances that would help spread rhythmic gymnastics.

– I would like to ask Hannamiina, what motivated you to start using TikTok and other social media?

HannaAfter entering university, we were scouted by Avex and joined the company. Until then, we thought that our own social media accounts would be enough, but someone from our agency told us that “TikTok is the platform that will attract the most fans,” so we set up an account for just the two of us.

MiinaIt started to go viral around August last year.

HannaUp until now I’d just been following trends and copying them all, but I realized that that wasn’t right, so I started doing some of my favorite overseas trends and did a lip-sync video of the two of us side by side, and it went viral.

MiinaBecause our bangs are in different directions, when we stand facing each other, they look symmetrical, and we received feedback like “I thought it was a mirror,” which prompted us to focus more on our social media activities.

–Did the two of you originally have the desire to do this kind of activity together?

MiinaYes! Since we were little, we always loved to talk like overseas YouTubers, so we said, “It would be great if we could do something like that together.”

–Do you ever get words of encouragement from your friends around you at university?

MiinaEveryone is cheering us on, and we often hear people say things like, “I’m always watching you,” or, “I’m rooting for you two.” When I’m walking around campus, a junior student tells me, “I worked hard to get to the same university as you two,” and it motivates me.

HannaThey have appeared on a YouTube video introducing our university. Because of this, some people sit next to me during classes at the university and say, “I saw your video, came to Tokyo, and worked hard to get here!” Seeing our followers up close has also boosted my motivation.

–Given your personalities, would you be able to become friends with someone who spoke to you at school?

HannamiinaI agree.
MiinaOn the other hand, I also ask, “What kind of video would you like to watch?”

–Do you often spend time together at school?

HannaWe are in different departments, so we are apart during class, but we are together otherwise. We both commute to school by train, but we don’t like being alone on the train, so we meet up and go home together.

MiinaSometimes when we’re tired after school or in our off-mode and we’re eating dessert together with our mouths wide open, he says, “I was watching TikTok,” which can make me a little flustered (laughs), but I’m still happy when he talks to me.

–Please tell us if there is anyone that you admire among yourselves. First, please start with Yoshito of the Sato Brothers.

YoshitoTo be honest, there is no one I look up to.
As triplets performing synchronized acrobatics, there are some aspects of ourselves that don’t immediately come to mind, so we want to pave the way so that we can become someone that others can look up to.

–Sato, you’re now starting to focus on acting, but do you have any vision of becoming someone like that?

HayatoFrom interacting with other actors in the same agency, I think it’s great when there are actors who can influence those around them, from rehearsals to on set. I too would like to become an actor who can influence those around me and change the atmosphere of the situation, not only during the performance but also in the process leading up to the performance.

–If you had to name one person you admire, who would it be?

HayatoKimura Takuya-san. Kimura-san has a unique aura, and I felt that just having him there made the set feel more at ease, so I want to become that kind of presence.

–Are there people like that, Ayato?

AyatoThis is Matsuda Genta from Travis Japan.
I think it’s great to be able to balance variety and being an artist. Right now I’m concentrating on performance, and I haven’t been able to improve my speaking skills or variety skills at all, so I’m always inspired by artists who are active in variety shows.

-Is there anyone you admire, Hannamiina?

HannaI want to be a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world like Naomi Watanabe. I think Naomi Watanabe is popular around the world because she has both an interesting personality and a great sense of fashion.

MiinaI think that only Naomi Watanabe can pull off this fashion and character, so we too would like to become icons who show the best of our own personalities both inside and out.

HannaIt’s kind of iconic. I want to give it an intellectual feel like Naomi Watanabe or Kōki&Cocomi.

–Are there any stories about how having twins or triplets gave you an advantage or caused you problems?

YoshitoWhile working together as a trio, we can easily point out things we need to be careful about and help each other improve. I think that with siblings or friends who are not the same age, there are some things that we might not say out loud, but with us, there is no such thing and we can directly point out our own shortcomings, which I think is a great advantage.

HayatoYou’ll get two opinions.

–On the other hand, are there any problems you face because you are triplets?

AyatoI guess the first question is basically the same.

YoshitoIf someone asks me how to tell the difference, I’ll end up replying with a template.

AyatoI think that’s a bit of a problem.

YoshitoNo, I’m grateful! (laughs)

HayatoThat being said, when I was a student I would often make mistakes and get told off, or I would get told off for being three siblings, so I would like everyone to take a good look at each child.

–Hannamina, is there anything good about being a twin?

MiinaFirst of all, you’ll never be alone.
I’ve been living the same lifestyle up until I was 20, so I can be open about all my worries. Even if I’m worried about something, if someone tells me “It’s okay, it’s nothing like that,” I think “Maybe everything’s okay,” and I’ve never been really sick or anything like that.

HannaThe moment when I think the best thing about having twins is that they provide both emotional and physical support.

–On the other hand, have you ever had any trouble with these sorts of things?

HannaAfter all, because we are so close, we solve secrets by talking among ourselves, so I think that even though we have a lot of friends, having few people we can have deep conversations with is a weakness.

–Next, please tell us about your future goals and aspirations for what you want to achieve from now on, each of the Sato brothers.

HayatoYour goal is to spread rhythmic gymnastics around the world and to become triplets that are loved all over the world.
I think our greatest strength as identical triplets is the closeness we share, so I want to take advantage of that and appear on TV shows, etc. Also, I’ve been given the opportunity to do a lot of things, such as being an ambassador for the professional surfing league “S.LEAGUE” and a tourism ambassador for Thailand, so I hope to increase these opportunities so that more people will know about us, and that one day men’s rhythmic gymnastics will become known around the world.

YoshitoI am planning to release some original songs in the future, and would like to promote rhythmic gymnastics in various ways, including singing, dancing and acrobatics.

HayatoI hope to create something unique that is unique to us.

–Please tell us what your goal is for the person you want to become in the future.

MiinaWe want to go beyond the boundaries of social media. Social media is one of our main activities, so we want to use our conversation skills and our experiences living abroad since we were little to communicate on social media, and ultimately become a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world, so that people in Japan can feel closer to the rest of the world.

HannaTo achieve that, I would like people to first get to know what kind of person I am through variety shows and the like.

–I think the hot weather is going to continue from now on, so is there anything you want to do or enjoy?

AyatoThis year I want to split a watermelon with three people.

YoshitoThe three of us are itching to go to the river and play watermelon smashing.

HayatoI’m also planning a bus tour in October, so I’m looking forward to enjoying lots of different things from summer to autumn.

–How about you, Hannamiina?

HannaWe’ll be turning 21 in September. I think turning 20 is a pretty important turning point, so I want to make the most of this summer until I turn 21. I also hope to go abroad, a place I’ve never been to before.

MiinaI want to go to a festival. I don’t like crowded places, so I haven’t been to many so far, but I want to go to a festival while I’m still a student, so I’ll do my best with Hanna!
