Haruka Sakurai, a member of the idol group SUPER☆GiRLS, made her first appearance in the “Idol Karaoke Battle 2024” at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL 2024 and won her first championship. Also appearing in the event was Ayana Kashiwa, a member of the 6th generation, who placed 3rd and put up a great fight.
SUPER☆GiRLS was formed in 2010. They have released 31 singles to date, performed solo at the Nippon Budokan, and have held numerous idol festivals, making them an indispensable group when talking about the Japanese idol scene.
In January 2023, five 6th generation members joined, and the group is now in its “6th Chapter” and consists of a total of nine members.
They are affectionately known by idol fans as “Supaga,” and the singles they release every summer are so refreshing and high quality that they are often described as “Summer Supaga.”
Sakurai and Kashiwa will join as 6th generation members in 2023. They won second place in the TV Tokyo program “THE Karaoke Battle
Before the karaoke battle, Sakurai, whose speciality is getting high scores in karaoke, said, “I feel like I’m going to collapse from all the pressure from everyone,” as Supaga members and staff had high expectations of her, while Kashiwa was nervous and said, “I want to become a wall.” Both of them looked nervous, but once they got on stage, Sakurai performed Yuna Ito’s “Precious” and won her first championship! Kashiwa also put up a great fight, singing X JAPAN’s “Rusty Nail” and coming in third place.
After the performance, Sakurai said, “I was happy to see so many Supaga fans holding glow sticks,” suggesting she was encouraged by the support of her fans.
Kashiwa also commented, “I was nervous because I’ve never sung karaoke alone in front of everyone before,” but both of them performed with confidence, achieving the feat of the two members of Supaga monopolizing the top spots.
In addition, the “Idol Karaoke Battle 2024” will be broadcast on August 31st as a follow-up program to “TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL 2024”, “TIF PLAY BACK ~ Everyone’s ONE SONG ~”, and the winners of each day will perform, with Sakurai’s performance being highlighted.
