Actor Takano Akira has been confirmed to appear in the new Saturday 9pm drama “After School Chart” (starting Saturday, October 12th) which will begin airing on Nippon Television in October.
This work is set in an elementary school, and the loudmouthed and arrogant pediatrician Makino (Matsushita Kohei) uses his keen observational skills to see through the “unspoken SOS” of children and encourage them to move towards the future. It is a human drama set in the school nurse’s office. The original work was serialized in BE・LOVE (Kodansha).
The cast members who will play the protagonist Makino (Matsushita Kohei) and the elementary school teachers surrounding Shinoya (Morikawa Aoi), the teacher at the elementary school where Makino is assigned, have now been announced, and it has been announced that Takano Akira will be appearing.
Takano began his career in the entertainment industry with Tensai Terebikun, and has experience appearing in the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and the Japan Record Awards with Dream5. Since then, he has been active mainly on stage, making use of his overwhelming performance skills in singing and dancing. In recent years, he has been known for his work in a number of productions, including the musical Touken Ranbu series and the stage Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- series, and last year he was in the spotlight for his lead role in the stage production Kingdom. The overwhelming acting skills he has cultivated there are also on display in films, and this spring he has appeared in several productions, including Quruli -Who Fell in Love with Me?, Kimi to Yukite Saku -Shinsengumi Seishunroku-, and Overprotective Young Master’s Amayakashikon, making him one of the most powerful and talented actors today. This fall, he is also set to appear in the same Nippon Television series Octo -Emotional Investigator Kokoro no Akari- Season 2.
Takano plays Mr. Sawa, the homeroom teacher of Class 1, Year 4, at Higashitama Daihachi Elementary School, the setting of the film. He is a Gen Z teacher who became an elementary school teacher because he loves children. While he enjoys spending time with the students at school, he also works hard every day behind the scenes to do his job efficiently.
Takano, who was chosen to appear in the film, revealed, “When I read the script, I was moved to tears.”
“The teachers are confused by Mr. Makino’s calm, sound reasoning, but each of them has strong feelings for the students. The innocence of the elementary school students made me feel a mixture of impatience and meanness, but it is also beautiful in ways that cannot be put into words. I think it is immeasurable how much the teachers struggle to raise and protect the children, but I would like to use my imagination to bring it to life and perform the role with respect.”
The new Saturday drama “After School Chart” will start on Saturday, October 12th at 9pm.
