Loud hero “waterweed” released their new album “Departures” today. The MV for the pilot song “Hope” has also been released.

“Waterweed” has been leading the music scene since before the word “loud” even existed and genres such as “post-hardcore” and “screamo” were recognized. The style they arrived at through their explorations was a deepening of their “roots” of melodic hardcore. In the UK/EU, we have signed a contract with the prestigious British label “Lockjaw Records”, and while the re-importation has been gaining acclaim in Japan, the two singles included in this work have been featured in an anime, attracting even more attention. I’m starting to collect them.

Their new album “Departures” was released today, and the music video for the last song “Hope” was also released.

Hope – Music Video (YouTube):

The journey of this work, which is not a short one with 18 songs in total, begins with the song “Terminal” and ends with “Hope”.

Terminal is the “end point” of a destination. In some cases, the word “apocalypse” has negative connotations such as end of life, misery, and destruction. It is played on the biwa played by an ally of the Japanese lute. It’s not a bright start. However, after passing through the next 16 songs, when we reach the final act titled “Hope,” my heart is spinning something like a bright sign. It’s not something that shines blindly, but it certainly shines.

In fact, the title “Departures” not only means “departure,” but also has nuances such as “leaving” and “leaving,” as well as “new development.” At the end, the song “Hope” is sung, and the song heads back toward the end, “Terminal.” And once again, the daily life that I can’t be happy about begins again.

Having lived in the reality of a live house for a long time, they probably want to convey through this work, “(You and I) can still do it.” It’s easy to say, “I don’t get swept away by the times.” You will definitely understand the importance of it after you have persevered. In an ever-changing world, the sounds of bands that have found something unchanging are always the deepest and freshest.
