Multinational Rock Band Johnnivan Releases New Single After a Year, Along with a Music Video!
After about a year since their 2nd album “Give In!” in November 2022, Johnnivan is back with their new single “Kayoesque” (pronounced ‘Kayo-esque,’ a coined term meaning ‘song-like’) released today, December 1st. They’ve also unveiled the music video for this track.
“Kayoesque” is a dance number that delves into the theme of accepting the death of a loved one. It’s an oriental-flavored tune with a hint of Spanish essence at key points. The song continues the band’s traditional dance music style while drawing inspiration from the digital sound-making of the 90s and 00s, including artists like Björk, and current pop track-making, as seen in artists like ROSALÍA. It’s a song that shows the band’s strong stance on pushing beyond genre boundaries for growth and transformation, more personally than ever before.
Exciting Self-Organized Events Await!
Also, since last year’s end, the band will host their second self-organized event, “WE LOVE Vol.1,” at Shibuya WWW X. This big stage event will summarize Johnnivan’s 2023, featuring DYGL, BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON, and other DJs. As the title “WE LOVE” suggests, the band will invite artists they admire to this party, planning to gradually expand and regularly host these events, with this being the first one. Expect limited edition merch, special perks for attendees, and other unique experiences, making it enjoyable even for first-time concertgoers. Tickets are currently on general sale.

There are supporters out there shouting that the world needs to know more about Johnnivan.
Artist Profile: Johnnivan
A dance-rock band comprised of members from Japan, the U.S., and South Korea. Formed in December 2017 around Johnathan Sullivan (vocals) and Shogo Takatsu (keyboard), they’ve centered their sound on “the fusion of live instruments and dance music”. Operating under a self-produced ethos, they began creating music with this unique blend. Starting in 2018, they’ve been energetically performing live, primarily in Tokyo’s Shibuya and Shimokitazawa areas. They’ve also made appearances at festivals, including the ‘Ringo Music Festival’, and have quickly gathered attention. In 2019, they released their first EP “Pilot”, followed by their album debut “Students” in June 2020. This band is definitely one to watch! (Updated 2020/05/08, CD Journal)
