Bearwear released their new EP “ever_changing” today, Wednesday July 31st.
Bearwear, who originated in the Tokyo band scene with a musical style of emo and dream pop, has recently shifted to a DIY production system centered on home recording, such as digicore / bedroom pop. This work features Yuka Nagase, an artist who works on both the two-dimensional (digital) and three-dimensional (physical) axes, on all songs.
This album includes three songs, including the lead single “Basilisk,” inspired by reptiles, which is how the two groups first met, and themed on a mythical giant snake, the new song “Find Out,” and “Glider (ever_changing),” a cover of an existing Bearwear song by Yuka Nagase. The mix was done by ambientmonk (Bearwear) and nerdwitchkomugichan (Age Factory), and the mastering was done by Takeo Kira.
The music video for the track “Basilisk” has also been released. The music video, which was also created by JACKSON kaki, who also did the artwork for the EP, is set in a miniature garden-like world, and features a striking visual of everyday objects randomly arranged.
[Kazma (Bearwear) Comment]
We named this EP “ever_changing” to mean “ever changing”. Our musicality, our bodies and thoughts, and the environment around us are constantly changing. Our stance of valuing the things that remain the same while changing was one of the achievements of our challenge to collaborate with Nagase-san. This collaboration with Nagase Yuka and JACKSON kaki, two people who act as a bridge between virtual and reality, was a fun production period that allowed us to reexamine the fragility and beauty of the world we live in.
[ambientmonk (Bearwear) Comment]
Yuka Nagase had previously mentioned our music video for “I’ll Take You Anywhere,” so we proposed a collaboration. I’m very happy that it has come to fruition!
Bearwear has completely changed its form, but I feel a strong sympathy for it and it gives me a lot of courage from Nagase’s style of “having the duality of virtual and real life”. I hope that this collaboration will spread even more.
[Comment from Yuka Nagase]
The fact that the production of an EP was inspired by a single lizard was more unexpected and delightful than anything I could have ever dreamed of.
In fact, the charms of the two groups, who have similar musical styles and ways of being, blend together naturally, creating a song that gives off a wonderful chemical reaction.
Please listen to the music video as well.
[Comment from JAKSON kaki]
Using 3DCG and stereoscopic imaging technology, we lent our support to Bearwear’s next project. Using 3DCG, we have given form to the world they saw (city and nature), depicting a corner of the world as it might have been.
