The men’s skirt brand, “lesskirt”, has been launched. Pre-orders began today, August 1st (Thursday).
The brand was launched by Linky Dink, which operates music studios and live music venues mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and its brand concept is “What’s wrong with a man wearing a skirt?” It aims to question the stereotypes surrounding skirts and update their meaning. As the first item, they have started pre-ordering a long skirt in three colors that can be worn in street scenes, outdoors, and in mode styles, as well as a T-shirt and a mini tote bag with the brand logo.
The skirt was designed with comfort and a silhouette in mind, so that it can be worn for everyday use with the same feel as chinos. The fabric is TC twill (polyester/cotton), a standard material used for work pants, and the waist is made with a wide 6cm elastic band. The free waist can be adjusted with a spindle, making for a stress-free fit. It also comes with a key hook, making it functional. Furthermore, the silhouette from the waist to the hem is firm, which helps keep the hem flared, creating a sophisticated look. The length is reminiscent of 8/9 length, so it would go well with sneakers or boots.
Along with the start of pre-order sales, a concept video that captures the world of
The brand logo was designed by Takehisa Gomi, the frontman of rock band LOSTAGE. It expresses a gender-neutral worldview in a pop style with a unique touch and a loose and charming character. The logo is also sewn onto the pocket on the back side of the skirt as a patch.
The second installment, which is coming soon, will feature a lineup of colors and patterns other than the basic colors, and also includes collaborations with artists and creators.
[Comment from Reona Komuta (General Manager of the Live House Division at Linky Dink Inc.)]
Why and when did men stop wearing skirts? Why should our appearance dictate what we wear?
why?
I have a daughter, and she came to me for advice when she was about to enter junior high school.
“I don’t want to wear a skirt.”
There is a custom in schools where girls wear skirts, which is now considered “natural.” For us, it was so “natural” that we no longer had any feelings of “why do I not want to wear a skirt, or why do I have to?”
My school did have pants for women, and it seems there were a few classmates in my year who felt the same way, so now I go to school in pants as if they were “normal.”
What about the other way around? I wonder why there is a culture that says male students can’t wear skirts.
Of course, there are people who wear them as an individuality as adults, but it’s still somehow different.
Many people, including myself, were overwhelmed with the feeling of “why?” which led to this release.
I think it’s okay to wear a skirt even if it’s manly and unfashionable.
I thought that if adult men were wearing them without a second thought, then young people would eventually shed such stereotypes as well.
