Urban festival “DEFOAMAT” to be held in October with performances by YONLAPA, Soft Pine, HOME, Sarasa, OMK and more

DEFOAMAT, an urban art and music festival, will be held in Daikanyama, Tokyo from October 19th (Sat) to 20th (Sun) with the concept of “exploring a new form of society amidst Asian cultural solidarity.”

“DEFOAMAT” is an abbreviation for “Daikanyama Edutainment Festival of Art, Music, and Technology.” The festival aims to provide an opportunity to think about things and to recognize that culture is an integral part of daily life. It aims to arouse interest in the questions posed by the music and art encountered at “DEFOAMAT” and to be a catalyst for change in people’s lives and values.

More than 15 artists from Asian countries will be invited to participate in the event, which will focus on both art and music, and will feature a variety of live events, exhibitions, and outdoor markets. The venues will be Daikanyama T-SITE, Daikanyama Forestgate, UNIT / SALOON, and Haretara Sora ni Mamemai. Tickets are on sale from today, August 1st (Thursday) on e+.

The first wave of announcements includes LEENALCHI, an alternative pop band that sings the verses of pansori, a traditional Korean oral art form; YONLAPA, a four-piece band from Chiang Mai, Thailand; Soft Pine, a band that is an iconic new generation of Thai indie scene that also emerged from Bangkok, Thailand; OMK, which is spreading “ASIAN DANCE MUSIC” (ADM) to the world from Japan; Terao Saho, an singer-songwriter and essayist who also performs in various Asian countries; Sarasa, who has also been confirmed to appear at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL’24 and is about to release her second album “Golden Child”; HOME, an up-and-coming trio based in Okinawa; and Taikuu Jikan, led by Kawamura Koheisai, who studied shadow puppetry and gamelan during his two-year stay in Bali.

In terms of art, Indonesian art collective ruangrupa, the first Asian artistic director of Germany’s world-famous art festival Documenta 15, will participate and produce a project based on research on the theme of Tokyo. Other talented Japanese artists are also scheduled to participate. Details such as the timetable will be announced on the official website as soon as they are decided.
