bane to release first self-produced song “UmU”

Yokohama-born singer-songwriter bane has announced that he will be releasing his new single “UmU” on Wednesday, August 28th.

Bane began his music career in earnest in 2020, releasing his second EP “mono” in 2023. At the same time, he has been steadily expanding the scope of his activities, such as appearing as a guest on Shin Sakiura’s fourth album “Inner Division” and having his song “Dependence Play” picked up by DJ/producer DaBook’s DJ mix “R&B Vibes in Japan.”

This is bane’s first release of 2024 and his first self-produced work. The sound was handled by producer Rikuto Nagira, who is also known for his work with lo-key design and shosha. As the title “UmU” (existence or absence) suggests, this is a ballad song that depicts the “difficulty of being yourself” and the “pain of being expected to be yourself.” It is an alternative R&B song that expresses the pain and conflict of not being able to respond well to positive trends such as “self-love” and “live as you are,” and the way of liberating oneself from them.

In order to be yourself, you need to face the inner voice that is “in” you, accept what you “don’t have,” and still be in touch with the warmth of the important people close to you who are there for you. This work “UmU,” born from this realization, is a self-produced work that shows the direction that Bane wants to go in, not only in terms of sound but also in terms of visuals, with the help of his friends. Bane says, “This is the first step of what I’ve always wanted to do.” We’d like to keep an eye on his future developments.
