Amiide, a singer-songwriter based in Tokyo and London, released his new single “DISTRACT ME” today, Wednesday, August 21st.
Amiide is also known as a member of Otomodatchi, a hip-hop duo with Jyodan. This is his second solo release of 2024, and was produced by Zuma., who also produced the aforementioned Otomodatchi songs. Jyodan also participated as a guest on the album, providing rap and harmony.
The groove created by Zuma. and the overlapping harmonies by Amiide and Jyodan are impressive, and the lyrics express how the singer meets someone when he is feeling down after a breakup and asks them to “help him forget his sorrows.”
[Comment from Amiide]
I originally made a demo as an Otomodatchi song, but I thought it might be more suited to Amiide’s solo work, so I decided to release it as a solo piece this time.
In Otomodatchi, Jyodan often comes up with the ideas for the themes and choruses, but with this song I was the one who mainly expanded on the idea, so I think it shows more of my own style.
