SUNNY ONLY 1 released their first EP, “Electric Drive,” today, August 23rd (Friday).
Singer/DJ SUNNY ONLY 1 attracted attention last year not only with singles such as “Dance like a monkey,” in which he collaborated with Dongurizu no Mori, but also for his work with the creative collective bala.
This album was produced by Noah Ings, a cutting-edge producer from London, and presents a new mode of electro retro. It is a work that shows the musicality and worldview of an artist from Tokyo with a more underground and oriental charm.
The album opens with the mysterious electronic dance tune “Utopia,” which references the children’s song “Kagome Kagome,” followed by a wide variety of sounds, including old school hip house “BOUNCE” featuring rapper YINYO, the emotional electronic rock tune “100%” featuring DALU from TOKYO YOUNG VISION, the provocative, dirty and intense floor banger “Natural born killer,” the melancholic bedroom drum and bass pop lead track “Roller Coaster Girl,” the cyberpunk oriental-inspired R&B tune “Shogyo Mujo,” the beautiful electronic soul “Energy,” and the euphoric UKG sound of “Take Me With You,” featuring Nao Kawamura.
The album contains eight tracks that combine a groovy electro sound that reflects her sensibilities as a DJ active in Tokyo’s cutting-edge club music scene with lyrics and performances that expose her unstable and fluctuating personal side.
