wau’s 01sail releases a “Black Contemporary” EP

01sail, a producer/guitarist affiliated with the creative collective/label wau, released his new EP, Structured Soul, today, Wednesday, August 28th.

This album contains six tracks in total, including previously released singles featuring wau singer Reina, BIG FAF (Flat Line Classics), FiJA, ZIN (Soulflex), Ámina, and others, as well as the instrumental number “Swing Jam in A♭ Minor” and two new tracks, “Spaceship,” featuring singer Lil Summer as a guest.

The lead track, “Spaceship,” was inspired by 90s and 00s R&B artists such as Janet Jackson and Aaliyah, and expresses the unique luster of black contemporary music with its sticky groove, floating synthesizer, and Lil Summer’s silky singing voice. It also has elements that resonate with producers such as Erika De Casier and Fabiana Palladino, who reinterpret old school black contemporary music in a modern way.

Additionally, the instrumental track “Swing Jam in A♭ Minor,” which serves as the EP’s intro, features an exhilarating New Jack Swing style beat, providing a fitting opening to this work based on a black contemporary concept.
