The music event “Dig Meeting” will be held on Saturday, September 7th at Jalana Coffee, a coffee stand that opened next to the long-established import shop “Jalana” in Ameyoko, Ueno, Tokyo.
When talking about Tokyo’s hip-hop scene, the areas that are often mentioned these days are Shibuya, Ebisu, Nakameguro, Shinjuku, and other areas dotted with clubs. It is true that various artists continue to make their mark on Tokyo’s culture on a daily basis, but Ueno, where “Coffee By Jalana” is based, also has a strong music scene with a deep and diverse history.
Jalana Coffee is open as a bar until late at night on weekends, and regularly hosts a wide range of music events, including hip hop, reggae, and bands. Dig Meeting is also held in Ueno Ameyoko, an area dotted with restaurants and apparel stores, and is an experimental attempt to transcend the boundaries of the club music scene, on the border between Yamate and Shitamachi, where various cultures mix.
“Coffee by Jalana” focuses on young artists who usually perform live outside of East Tokyo. In addition to the three crews CULT, KEYTOTHECITY, and interplay, MFDP from CULT will perform solo. DJs include MFDP, Hayate, and YU (KEYTOTHECITY).
“Dig Meeting” is a meeting for digging and enjoying new attractions from different perspectives at the cultural crossroads of Ueno. Why not come and join us?
