Seimei releases new song inspired by downtown Tokyo

DJ/producer Seimei released his new single “Do This Shit” today, Friday, September 13th.

Seimei is the founder of the dance music label TREKKIE TRAX and is active both in Japan and overseas. In recent years, he has also been highly acclaimed as a producer, releasing music on the Canadian label WET TRAX and New York’s Sorry Records.

This work was inspired by Seimei’s life in Tokyo and the greater Tokyo area, and was created with the theme of the audience dancing at the nightclubs where he works, mainly in Tokyo. It is a trippy and danceable four-on-the-floor track influenced by ghetto techno and Detroit techno, and uses the name of Downtown in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Shimokita, and other areas in “TOKYO” where Seimei himself and the artists around him work, using a processed version of his own voice.

This theme itself had been in Seimei’s mind for a while, but he had difficulty creating a song that matched it. However, after completing the base of this work, he processed and used the voice he recorded on his iPhone, and the song was soon completed.

The line in the lyrics, “This is the sound of the east,” of course refers to the sound of Tokyo and the metropolitan area, but it also combines the perspective of “TOKYO” in eastern Japan as seen from the West, and is filled with respect for his home ground as a DJ from multiple perspectives.

The single also includes remixes by Oyubi, NirBorna, DubGuy, who have all released works on TREKKIE TRAX, as well as WTCHCRFT, a New York-based techno artist who is also friends with Seimei.
