FUJI will release his new album “The God Who Yawned” on Wednesday, September 18th.
This work is an ambitious work that FUJI fuses various musical styles beyond the boundaries of J-POP with the theme of childhood memories. It consists of 7 songs in total, and progresses with a unique sense of balance in which his original ideas run wild within the J-POP format.
The title “The God Who Yawned” comes from the image of a god sitting on an M-shaped signboard that he saw from the back seat of his parents’ car as a child, and a god sitting on a bright red steel tower in the countryside. The god he saw there did not do anything, he just sat there. He was inspired by the hidden violence that lurks in sacred yet everyday scenery.
In addition, their first solo live show, “CLIMAX IS THERE”, will be held on Saturday, October 26th at Forestlimit in Hatagaya, Tokyo. On the day, Shogo Shibata (Gt.), Riku Takayama (Ba.), and Mitsusuke Yoshida (Dr.) will participate and will perform with the “Expanded Band Set”.
[FUJI Comment]
The works released so far under the name FUJI have been centered on the pursuit of balance in making a violent band sound work as J-Pop.
This time, while continuing that tradition, we approached the production with the intention of “expanding the scope even further and creating a powerful pop song.”
First of all, we had to make sure that the core of the song, that is, the lyrics, melody, and harmony, were strong.
Also, when arranging, I set a much stricter bar for myself in terms of whether the parts I chose were worthy of supporting the theme of the song.
Up until now, I’ve been completing my work entirely in my own room, but for this piece, I asked friends to help me out when necessary.
In particular, in M3 “The God Who Yawned,” I had planned to include the sounds of Mellotron and electric piano, but with the help of support member Mitsusuke Yoshida in programming, I was able to create a part that took my concept to the next level. The interlude and outro parts of the song are examples of this, and I think they will be the highlights of this album.
I still feel like I’m not even at 5% of the level I really want to reach, but it’s impossible to reach any goal right away, so… Still, I put all my effort into making it.
I hope that this album will reach unexpected places, and I believe that it has the power to do so.
This will also be my first solo performance. I hope to bring out feelings that no one has ever experienced before. I will do my best to prepare for that day.
