Electronic music and digital art festival “MUTEK 2024” to be held in Shibuya, Tokyo

The electronic music and digital art festival “MUTEK.JP” will be held for three days from November 22nd (Friday) to 24th (Sunday) at Spotify O-EAST and WOMB in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Now in its ninth year, MUTEK.JP will feature musical performances by more than 25 cutting-edge artists from Japan and abroad. The event will showcase a variety of experimental and innovative audiovisual live performances that combine technology and creativity, something that can only be experienced at MUTEK.

At Spotify O-EAST, Berlin-based electronic composer Caterina Barbieri will perform a special live set for “Nocturne 1.” Berlin-based Dutch-Italian composer/sound designer Grand River will also be performing an A/V (audio-visual) live show.

In addition, the art music project VMO aka Violent Magic Orchestra, which was highly acclaimed at the 2024 Sónar Festival, has been confirmed to perform at Nocturne 2, while Nocturne 3 will feature an electro set by Kara-Lis Coverdale, a talented new generation electronic/acoustic artist, as well as an audio-visual live performance by Hiroshi Watanabe, who has delivered numerous works from Japan to the world.

The all-night performance at WOMB will feature the first visit to Japan by UK DJ Tasha, who is well-known as a DJ in the drum and bass community. He will perform an A/V live set by RISA TANIGUCHI & H2KGRAPHICS.

Palestinian artist Maher Daniel, who has performed with his good friend Ricardo Villalobos at festivals around the world, will be coming to Japan for the first time, as well as Margaret Dygas, a talented DJ who is hugely trusted by a wide range of DJs, from techno and house to core clubbers.

New and cutting-edge artists will come together to develop a variety of innovative content programs, including sound, digital art, audiovisual live performances, and media arts, in pursuit of new ideas and expressions.

“MUTEK.JP 2024” will be held as a subsidy for the Japan Expo 2.0 project in fiscal year 2024, with Tokyu Corporation and Shibuya Hikarie as special partners, and Johnnie Walker Blue Label as a cooperator. Details of the conference program and immersive media art permanent exhibition to be held at Shibuya Hikarie Hall B on the same dates will be announced at a later date.
