VOLOJZA, new album “Ushio” released today & lyric video released

VOLOJZA will release their new album “Ushio” today, October 23rd (Wednesday). At the same time, the lyric video for the song “Tariki” was released.

VOLOJZA is a rapper/beat maker from Chiba and also known as a member of the alternative hip hop group Die, No Ties, Fly, which collaborates with Tokyo’s LEXUZ YEN (OGGYWEST) and Nagasaki beat maker poirve.

This work includes a total of 10 songs, including the lead singles “Sawai”, “EXP”, and “I Know You”. He created the beats for all the songs himself, and there are no guest performers, making it a pure solo album.

This work, which is composed of sampling-based tracks that goes in a different direction from the previous work “What I Saw in a Broken Mirror”, which mainly consisted of typing, focuses on relaxing and comical lines, but also has a somewhat ominous feel. It’s also full of mood. The album is different from the non-genre styles of Die, No Ties, and Fly, and is said to be “a return to its roots in hip-hop, which I love.” On the rap side, he emphasizes hip-hop aesthetics such as word play and rhyming, while presenting lyrics with a sense of life and humor. The content is such that you can enjoy the rap that is in line with the genre “AOR (Adult Oriented Rap)” that he pioneered through his activities with Die, No Ties, Fly.

Mixing and mastering was handled by LEXUZ YEN, who works with Die, No Ties, and Fly. The artwork was created by VOLOJZA.

[VOLOJZA comment]

It became my own version of boom-bap, trap, and other music. This is a work that expresses having one’s feet on the ground but being unsteady, and vaguely traversing the past, present, and future. I think it turned out to be something that has a commoner feel, but also has a sci-fi feel.

I want both people who listen to hip-hop a lot and people who don’t listen to it at all to listen to it. My style is between all kinds of typical boundaries, so I’d like people who feel stifled or skeptical about such affiliations to listen to it. The title “Ushio” is pronounced “Ushio”.
