Shingo Suzuki released her new album “Liquid Yellow Portraits” today, October 30th (Wednesday).
Shingo Suzuki, who is also Ovall’s bassist, started a new solo project LYPS (Liquid Yellow Portraits) in May of this year. This work, which has the same project name as its title, is the second album, the first in approximately 16 years since the first album “The ABSTRACT TRUTH”.
In addition to featuring powerful rappers/singers such as 5lack, Kojoe, Nenashi, and Ruri Matsumura, notable musicians from the jazz scene such as Reiya Terakubo, Fuyu, Shota Watanabe, and Masato Mori also participate. This is a masterpiece that seems to present a new style of jazz in Tokyo.
Furthermore, a live video of the album song “Love is word-less beat” from LYPS’s first live held at Tokyo’s Marunouchi COTTON CLUB on October 1st (Tuesday) was also released. The trio band of Shota Watanabe, Masato Mori, and Shingo Suzuki, who also participated in the recording, will be the core, with trumpeter Shinpei Ruie and singer Nenashi participating as guest artists. The video allows you to experience the tense sound that can only be experienced at a live concert, such as the voice spreading out from the tense atmosphere with few sounds, and the sound of the trumpet.

The creation of this work is based on the production method that I have created so far, which is precisely editing and mixing sampling and live performances, and I am going on a journey to create work that includes many organic and alternative elements together with jazz musicians. It has become. It seamlessly fuses hip-hop-derived beat making with improvisational jazz-inspired live performance.
This is a recording work that brings together contradictory elements. All of the participating musicians are featured artists. And this album is a work that is filled with my current music and worldview.
This album is not a collection of singles, but all the songs are pieces created specifically for the album.
Each song has a different color, the order of the songs follows a storyline, and the whole work, including the artwork, is one piece.
There are some parts where there are no gaps between songs, so all the songs are musically connected. Please listen to the songs in order. I think you can feel the story of the music more convincingly.
Creating music with an experimental and free approach is the real thrill of making an album, and there’s a lot of fun to be had, so I hope you’ll discover it.
