Hasegawa Shirakami will release his 2nd album “Magical School” with participation from KID FRESINO, Miho Hasama and others

It has been announced that Hasegawa Shirakami will release his 2nd album “Magical School” on Wednesday, July 24th.

Hasegawa Shirakami signed a contract with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder in July last year. This is his first album since moving to the label and his second album in about 4 years and 8 months. This album features jazz bassist Sam Wilkes, who is known for his collaborations with Louis Cole and Sam Gendel. ”, a total of 12 songs including “Gotsu Teshimatsuta”, a collaboration song with KID FRESINO, a self-cover of the song “Tsubabi ni Kaminari” provided to Hanafu, and “Terror no Hoshi” with Miho Hasama participating in the horn arrangement. Will be recorded.

Additionally, the lead single “Boys Texture” will be released on Friday, May 10th. This song is based on a song that Hasegawa wrote for Noir Kei Ninomiya’s Spring/Summer 2024 show at Paris Fashion Week last year, and Shuhiro Nishida participates on guitar. Mixing was done by Masashi Uramoto, and mastering was done by Heba Kadry, who also works with Bjork.

Hasegawa, who has always had an aversion to his own appearance and was always afraid of seeing himself reflected in mirrors and photographs, says this is a song in which he confronts this, just like the artist photo released the other day.

The album “Magic School” will be released simultaneously on CD and digitally. The CD includes a commentary and a translation of the lyrics. The CD will also be available as a limited edition set with a T-shirt. In addition, the LP will be released on Friday, August 9th, and will be available in a limited edition with a Japanese obi (translucent pink vinyl), a regular edition (translucent pink vinyl), and a limited edition Tower Records special color Japanese edition. It will be available in three versions: a version with a band (gold vinyl). Additionally, various original benefits will be announced soon when purchasing the album at Tower Records, HMV, Disc Union, and Amazon.

[Hasegawa Shirakami comment]

I first started creating this work with a single purpose: to invert the body. However, as I proceeded with the production, I became frightened by how monolithic the method of constructing the body that I had initially assumed was, and how my own body had countless contradictory possibilities. Ta. The production of this work was always carried out in such fear and confusion. In the end, I didn’t have a clear direction for this piece. That was impossible from the beginning. I didn’t want to be a craftsman or a missionary, a sample pack, a shutter, an employer of time or a best friend of memory, a tiger cub, a shiny asexual thing, anything that came to mind, but everything at the same time.
I am still losing control of myself. And perhaps it was something that could only be lost with the passage of time.
(That’s all from me.)
