SSW/producer NIKI, who was born in Jakarta, Indonesia but is currently based in LA, has announced that his new album “Buzz” will be released on Friday, August 9th via 88rising. In addition, the lead single “Too Much Of A Good Thing” was released today, May 3rd (Friday).
“Too Much Of A Good Thing” is a song with ironic and honest lyrics that naturally conveys the feeling of meeting a new love. Co-producing is credited to NIKI’s friend Ethan Gruska, a producer who has previously worked with Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Kimbra, and more.
NIKI also commented on the song as follows: “This is a funny and sarcastic song about desire and imagination, and the excitement and irreverent playground they create. Sonically, it’s timeless, and I think it’s expressed in a groove that feels like it’s strutting around in a seemingly invincible moment, when my talented friend Ethan Gruska and I worked together to create songs like Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles. I wrote it when I was listening to it a lot. It was one of the early ideas and it influenced the whole album.”
Buzz, his third studio album, began with a sudden fluctuation in his inner core. The result is a collection of heart-tugging folk-rock songs. Regarding the album, NIKI said, “I was in the middle of an identity crisis.” “I went through a lot of trial and error, and in the process I came across various pieces of myself.I feel like I’m on the precipice where something is about to happen.” So we named it “Buzz.”
In addition to Ethan Gruska, the album is produced by Tyler Chester, who has worked on songs by Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles.
