tofubeats’ first national tour in 5 years Tokyo performance report arrives Chisato Moritaka & Takashi Fujii also appear

The Tokyo performance of tofubeats’ national tour “JAPAN TOUR 2024” was held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Ebisu Garden Hall in Tokyo. The last national tour was the release tour for the album “RUN” held in 2018. This is their first national tour in five years, and this is a pure tofubeats national live show that is not a release or anniversary event.

Ebisu Garden Place, which is like a sampling of the suburbs built in Tokyo, is in the Christmas mood. A long line had already formed in front of the garden hall. At Sapporo mole, there was a line of people waiting in line for the arcade in front of the venue, but today it was even more outrageous.

Thankfully, I was invited to the dressing room, so I said hello to all of tofubeats. Even though it was just before the performance started, Tofubeats continued to have a rough talk with the staff, and there was no sense of tension. but“Tofubeats’ unhealthy journey (Shueisha Online)”My body is so damaged that it’s even worth writing about, so there’s no way I don’t have stress.

“It’s fun to do small events by yourself, but it’s rewarding to do big events that involve a lot of people and let them do their own thing. I’m really grateful for that.”

Even when tofubeats takes to the big stage, they act as if they are heading to a private DJ booth, which seems to worry their manager CE$. This calm behavior itself may be due to his sense of responsibility and consideration for the many people he interacts with, including the customers.

“It’s okay to be yelled at.” I watched tofubeats go up to the stage, and then I headed to the floor to enjoy the party. The beat of “20140803” could be heard.

When I re-entered the floor from the end, the venue was already packed. Tofubeats looks small from the rear, but the sound is loud. Apparently the sound is good. Starting with the sunny “WHAT YOU GOT,” which was a perfect way to start the show, the live set-up was completed, followed by the signature songs “PEAKTIME,” “RUN,” and “STAKEHOLDER.” In “STAKEHOLDER”, the cut of tofubeats being hit with a bottle (for filming) that costs 8,000 yen each from the MV was looped as usual. Do you like it? With “m3nt1on2u” in between, the song captivated the audience with its “fluctuation” from the computer music club, where you often hear someone playing at a club.

It was a remix of “Kimono Kae” that chilled out the scene, which was getting very excited with “Freedom”, “Fume no Kokoro”, and a set list that was truly “THIS IS tofubeats”. This is the B-side song from their 2nd major EP “Disco no Kamisama”. This song has good lyrics.

After the promised product sales promotion MC, it was time for a ballad. After changing the air on the floor with “No.1”, “SHOPPINGMALL” and “RIVER”, the dance music started with “SOMEBODY TORE MY P”. “Remained Wall” from his latest album “NOBODY” has me completely blown away. It’s my favorite song. A fairly fast BPM, a bass line that shakes your internal organs, and Huez’s excessive laser beam flickering create a peak-time floor. Is there still an afterglow from “Lost Decade 12” held a week ago? From “I CAN FEEL IT,” “VIBRATION,” and “LONELY NIGHTS” at high BPM, to the techno karaoke “I Believe in You” with “TYPICAL!” (TOWA TEI feat. Takkyu Ishino). The floor reached its climax with a megamix of their latest work to “NOBODY”.

Just as I was anticipating the end of the dance floor as the song “Lost Decade” was being screwed, what jumped in was a engraved Amen and an overly thick bass. It’s “REFLECTION”. tofubeats themselves call it a “selfish program,” and it feels good to do whatever they want. The reason why this tour was held in the first place was a personal motive for tofubeats, who wanted to perform at Sapporo mole. Tofubeats declares itself to be a capitalist, but its motivations are more of a cute personal desire than a business one. I honestly respect his ability to turn it into such a big event.

Now, when you hear the intro of “Mercury”, the live show is finally coming to an end. tofubeats will perform the intro to “Mercury” live using a wind synth, also known as a “flute.” His own score at Sapporo mole was 72 points, but this time he said, “I guess it’s okay.” Why play the flute on tofubeats’ epic and classic song? To be honest, I don’t really understand what this is all about, but this kind of communication show between the audience and tofubeats is also one of his forms of entertainment. Hearing the words, “Let’s blow your soul,” the audience got excited.

And the audience seemed to understand that “Mercury” was the beginning of the entertainment industry. Takashi Fujii, a special guest for the Tokyo performance of this Japan tour, will appear with “POSITIVE”. This song has been sung with many guest vocalists, but Takashi Fujii’s “POSITIVE” is nothing short of “fun.” Above all, the words “Takashi Fujii’s POSITIVE” are too perfect. Takashi Fujii was an overwhelming entertainer, using a handheld microphone to excite the audience from one end to the other with his sharp dance moves, and the audience went wild. They performed “God of Disco” while looking back on their memories of touring over 30 locations 10 years ago.

The cloth hanging over the DJ booth will be replaced with one that says “Chisato Moritaka with tofubeats.” tofubeats was also surprised to find out that it was still there. This cross was used in 2014’s “SUMMER SONIC”, where admission was restricted, and the subsequent WOMB performance, and “Chisato Moritaka with tofubeats” is also the name of the unit. be. Chisato Moritaka (with tofubeats) appeared with great applause, and her first special collaboration in 10 years started with “Lara Sunshine” from “Moritaka Tofu”.

It was fun to see tofubeats being dominated by their impeccable speaking skills amidst the MCs of big stars. I thought it would just flow straight into “Don’t Stop The Music,” but here I was in for a surprise. Tofubeats, who turned 34 this month, was presented with a birthday cake by both Fujii and Moritaka. The words “Blow your soul” are written on the cake. For some reason, tofubeats was forced by Takashi Fujii to choose between having a cake thrown in his face or eating it, and he chose to eat it, completely sloppy. The venue gave a big round of applause as the cake was handed over from the booth. Tofubeats is a good talker and makes a lot of noise, but I wonder if they would be completely defeated in front of the two true stars.

I wonder if it’s because last year’s 10th anniversary event at Garden Hall was held on the day of my birthday. Takashi Fujii excited the crowd, Chisato Moritaka sang Happy Birthday, and tofubeats flinched. This was the moment when tofubeats’ past activities came to fruition. The final song that concludes the event is, of course, “Don’t Stop The Music” by Chisato Moritaka on vocals. At this point, there are no more words to say.

Ryo Isobe said that “genres are culture and politics in themselves,” and that borderless DJing is an act that causes political friction. Tofubeats’ live set, which seamlessly connects live music, dance music, and entertainment, is the very essence of political friction. The activities of can also be said to be centered around DJ-like activities that connect underground indies and hip stars, bedrooms and scenes, overground and underground, and the world and Kobe. Why does tofubeats continue to focus on friction? It would be nice to have a DJ who doesn’t scratch.

What makes it so mysterious are the couples who seem to have become even closer after the concert, the veterans who are tired of dancing, and the crew waving their penlights. Seeing the joy on the faces of the people gathered makes the experience even more rewarding. It is difficult for tofubeats, who are craftsmen who create sound but suffer from hearing loss, to remain in the real world. Every cultural tribe undergoes selection. Still, there is culture, and there is joy that can only be found there. The reason why we dare to continue to connect and to continue cultural friction is probably all about the mood of this floor, which connects that joy. In the end, I ended up dancing on the floor from beginning to end.

By the way, tofubeats also seems to have prepared a surprise after the show, but they are in no position after the one-of-a-kind surprise from their senior. However, it was an important surprise, so I’ll repeat it here. After the live performance, tofubeats announced the largest one-man live performance in their history. The event will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, and the venue will be the first Zepp Haneda (TOKYO). The advance ticket lottery will begin immediately after the performance, so be sure to check it out. tofubeats will not disappoint your expectations.
