As a new venture, Shakabozu’s independent project “TOKIO SHAMAN” will hold a two-man showcase “TOKIMAXIM” at two venues in Tokyo, Shibuya WWW and WWW X, on January 8th (Wednesday).
On the WWW floor will be Paledusk, a band that leads Japan’s loud rock scene, and Tade Dust, a rapper who is at the core of the hip-hop collective Yonekozoku, and on the WWW X floor will be Shakabozu, a rapper sponsored by TOKIO SHAMAN, and Mystery. Bed, a band that is active behind the scenes in both the band and club scenes, will perform.
As can be seen from the lineup, the challenge is to place a rapper and a band who have a strong presence in the underground as opposed to each other, and draw out the energy of both from a new perspective to create a chemical reaction.
The flyer’s motifs include buildings like the Tower of Babel rising in the wilderness and strange creatures. Japan’s various music scenes have developed rapidly since the pandemic, but now that the disaster has passed, many listeners and artists are taking a hard look at the situation, viewing it as a wasteland. The result is a challenging visual image that gives the impression that someone is in the middle of something.
