It has been announced that Nariaki Obukuro will release his new album “Zatto” on January 15th (Wednesday).
This is their fourth full-length album in three years, and their first independent release in their career. This work features Rosetta Carr, who plays bass in Sampha’s support band, Ayo Sarawu, Kokoroko’s drummer, and the band, who visited Japan for the first time this November. Many musicians active in the London music scene are participating, including Lyle Barton, who is also a support pianist for Nala Sinephro.
The mixing engineer was Russell Elevado, known as the Grammy-winning engineer who worked on D’Angelo’s “Voodoo” and Erykah Badu’s “Mama’s Gun.” It is said to be an ambitious work that combines multinational music such as jazz, reggae, dub, and Latin with the beauty of the Japanese language.
Additionally, pre-orders are currently being accepted for the CD edition, which will be released on Wednesday, February 26th. This is a limited edition case, and an original poster is also included.
In support of the new album “Zatto”, it has also been decided that a nationwide tour will be held for the first time in 2 years and 8 months as a live performance with a band. Starting at Misono Universe in Osaka, the tour will tour five cities: Nagoya, Fukuoka, Hokkaido, and Tokyo. Pre-sale tickets for the tour are available starting today.
[Comment from Nariaki Obukuro]
The song was created while having sessions with jazz musicians in London. It seems to be the first album in 1190 days since the previous album “Strides”. I think it took a lot of time, since one high school student enrolled and graduated while making one album. But if you don’t experience life, the songs won’t be born. The amount of time and effort put into this work has resulted in a classic work that will be passed down to future generations. I’d be lucky if I could at least be appreciated while I’m still alive.
