Artist JACKSON kaki, Audio Visual Collective BRDG, and a complex located on the upper floors of Toranomon Hills Station Tower in Tokyo“TOKYO NODE”A new event called “ASTRA” will be held on Monday, February 24th (national holiday).
This project was launched with a focus on club culture, which is essential for the urban night scene. Club culture is attracting attention as an important economic activity in the current nighttime economy, and is also an indispensable venue for young people to create new creativity. This project focuses on the creativity that club culture possesses and the technology that supports it, and aims to create new spatial experiences that make full use of sound and video.
The DJs and live acts featured at this event are not academic theories, but artists who have the experience and sensibilities they cultivated at the forefront of the club scene and street culture. The venue will be moved from the clubhouse stage to TOKYO NODE, a new venue in Tokyo, creating a venue where their creativity can be demonstrated in a completely new way.
Set in TOKYO NODE’s dome-shaped gallery, ASTRA combines video with omnidirectional projection mapping, precision sound design with greyfield, and sound from DJs and live acts, creating a “story” experience that brings the space itself to a single “story” experience. It is said to be an event that will transform into a new era.
In normal DJs and live performances, it is common to experience individual acts and to experience sounds as mere physical phenomena, but in “ASTRA”, the performers’ body, sound, and visual expressions are integrated into one, and Creates a “narrative experience” that runs from opening to closing.
The opening uses experimental ambient, post-club and noise sounds to depict an inhuman worldview and subjective space between living things and objects. The audience can not only stand, but also sit and lie down, and the event opens in a free audiovisual experience.
In the following live act, electronic music and physical expressions that are not bound by dance music are developed, and visuals that expand on it create a world that transforms from abstract to concrete. For the two hours after opening, the band deliberately eliminates dance-like sounds, creating an immersive experience that can be described as training with sound.
Then, in the last hour of DJ set, they enter the “dance” that releases the energy of their body that has been accumulated. Just as if a dam that had been damming muddy currents had burst, the overwhelming sound and audio-reactive video synchronize to reach a climax where sound, video, body and space are completely integrated.
The narrative in “ASTRA” does not present a specific story, but rather is the very relationship between sound, video, body, and space that is constructed by the speed and speed from opening to closing. While experiencing each expression, individual stories arise in the flow of the entire event, and the experience itself is the concept of “ASTRA” and becomes a work.
