Taiwanese DJ/producer Sonia Calico’s performance in Japan will be held at Shibuya R Lounge in Tokyo on Friday, March 21st.
Sonia Calico is also known as the leader of the legendary electropunk band Go Chic, which broke up, and has appeared in SXSW and Sónar, as well as in Japan in FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL and SUMMER SONIC. He also announced that he will be releasing the release under the solo name of Japan’s TREKKIE TRAX.
This performance, which will be coming to Japan for the first time in about eight years, is part of a tour featuring “Moonlight EP,” released last year on More Time Records, a popular label that combines UK sound with Middle Eastern and African music. It will be held as a presentation party for TREKKIE TRAX.
Sonia Calico’s products/DJs are influenced by UK bass and African music, mandpop and traditional oriental music listened to in Taiwan, as well as Japanese anime soundtracks, and the exquisite elaborateness of their electronics and delicately knitting is even obscure and eccentric. The works often contain messages on social issues such as discrimination, and the media has described them as “Defining dance music for the new generation of Taipei” (The Fader) and “Creating spaces in Taipei’s underground music” (Bandcamp).
In addition to familiar faces from Fellsius, Andrew, Carpainter, Seimei feat. ONJUICY and TREKKIE TRAX, FELINE will also be featured. Advance tickets are currently on sale on LivePocket.
