Gunma-based DJ/producer Amps has released his new album, “Birdland EP,” today, Friday, March 14th.
Since the release of the first EP from TREKKIE TRAX in 2014, his activities have been diverse, including appearing on large venues in Japan, performing at various events, traveling nationwide, and hosting Japanese tours by overseas DJs. Additionally, the 2021 Be On A Roll EP was highly praised for its tech house and deep house-based sound, and received support from top artists in the scene, including Skream, Flight Facilities, Blackchild (ITA), The Martinez Brothers, Mochakk, Classmatic, YOUniverse (IT), and Daniel Orpi. In 2023, he co-founded the label “Play Of Color” with Yuta Yamada and MINT (JPN). It expands the range of activities.
This is the first release from TREKKIE TRAX in about four years, and while it is based on Tech House and Deep House, it incorporates the essence of jazz, folk music, trip hop and tribal sounds, which can be said to be the roots of his current sound. The title song, “Birdland,” features a trademark, uninhibited saxophone riff on a groovy beat with ethnic chants and percussion. In addition, it includes five songs, including the tribal tunes “Clicks” and “Clap Rhythm”, which are trending in the tech house/deep tech scene. With the repetitive vocals in mind, the groove is led with impressive percussion and claps to create a unique atmosphere.
