“TOKA Songwriting Camp” to be held again this year with four overseas producers participating

The co-writing project “TOKA Songwriting Camp 2024” by TOKA Inc. and Fuji Pacific Music Inc. will be held for seven days from Monday, June 3rd to Sunday, June 9th at a music studio in Tokyo.

This is one of the largest songwriting camps in Japan, which has been running since 2021 under the concept of “providing a world-class songwriting camp to Japanese musicians and the music business.” Over the past three years, a total of 39 artists and producers have participated, releasing 13 songs.

Last year, producers and artists from the UK, Australia, and Belgium participated and held writing sessions with Japanese artists. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the initial goal of an international songwriting camp was realized. In particular, the collaborative track “Don’t Cross Me” between Australian alternative pop artist sleepy benjamin and up-and-coming Japanese producer Gimgigam was released by the American label Orenda Artists.

This year marks the fourth time the event has been held, and 10 artists and producers from Japan and abroad are scheduled to participate. Writing sessions will be held in various combinations.

Participating from overseas will be Audun, a Norwegian pop producer who has worked on K-pop group IVE’s singles “Kitsch” and “I AM”; Moksi, a Dutch producer known for his hard bass house music and whose work has been released on Martin Garrix’s STMPD Records and Yellow Claw’s Barong Family; YOG$, an LA-based alternative pop/R&B producer known for his collaboration with Quinn XCII; and FOUX, a Polish-born Tokyo-based producer who has also worked on songs for BAD HOP, OZworld, and LEX, among others. They will all be holding writing sessions with young Japanese artists.

TOKA’s founder, Obukuro Nariaki, commented, “I would be happy to provide Japanese musicians with a unique and fresh opportunity to expand their world through this songwriting camp.”

Fujipacific Music also commented, “By making full use of our global network, we are able to have a wide variety of fascinating producers from overseas participate in this year’s, our fourth camp. We are also very pleased that as awareness of this writing camp becomes stronger in the Japanese music industry, more Japanese artists are wanting to participate. We hope that this camp will provide new inspiration for the participating artists and help them create interesting collaborations, tomorrow’s hits, and long-lasting standards through the chemical reactions that arise from unexpected combinations.”

Dutch producer Moksi, who will also be taking part in the songwriting camp, has also booked a DJ gig in Tokyo.
