Hasegawa Hakushi’s pre-release single “Itchitta” has been released from his new album “Magic School”, which will be released on Wednesday, July 24th.
“Ichichatta” is a powerful song that is worthy of being the opening song of the album. The music video was created by Jamaican video creator Gauspel, just like the first single “Boys Texture”.
Hasegawa Hakushi signed with Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder in July last year. His first album since moving to the label, Magic School, is his second in about four years and eight months. It includes 12 songs, including “Kuchi no Hanabi” (Hanabi with the mouth), which features jazz bassist Sam Wilkes, who is also known for his collaborations with Louis Cole and Sam Gendel, “Yitte Shimatta” (It’s Gone), a collaboration with KID FRESINO, a self-cover of “Tsubomi ni Kaminari” (Lightning in a bud), and “Kyoufu no Hoshi” (Star of Fear), which features horn arrangements by Hasama Miho.

This is the most chaotic, the most unclear, and already the most contradictory song on the album, or of my work to date. I hope that this song will continue to hang in the air, just like the video Gauspel made for it — to be a celebration of non-commitment and resignation. I’m happy to start the album with this song.
