On Sunday, April 6th, Luv held the Tokyo performance, which will be the final of his first tour, “Already Cruisin'” at Shibuya WWW X. Following the release of their mini-album “Already” released in February, the tour is sold out in all five cities: Fukuoka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Osaka and Tokyo. The lead song, “Send To You,” recorded a viral hit in various Asian regions, and the band’s passion for rising curves was certainly conveyed both on stage and on the floor.
After the show starts, four members, Rosa (Kye.), Ofen (DJ), Zum (Ba.), and Sho (Dr.) first appeared on stage. Finally, when Hiyn (Vo., Gt.) appeared, he greeted him with the words, “It’s been a while since I last visited Tokyo! My name is luv!” and the live performance started with “Fabricating Fabricant DOPE.” He immediately grabbed the atmosphere with his sharp cutting and dance tunes featuring synths and scratches, and then stoked the audience by saying, “Come in!” and headed out to “Lee Un Vile.” This song, which is also the band’s self-introduction song, features solos in the order of bass, keyboards, DJ and drums, and Hiyn has a distorted guitar solo, and goes out to the front of the stage with Zum, making the floor even more exciting.
Rosa’s Neo-Soul Tune “Gum i” gives off a warm feeling of warmth in electric piano solos, and the major debut song “Fuwa Fuwa” asks, “Can everyone fly in 1, 2, 3?” The audience jumps all at once, indicating that the song is already loved. “Ozone,” which began after saying, “Give me more of your voltage. Can you reach the ozone layer?”, is an acid jazz series inspired by Jamiroquai from the A Funk Odyssey era, and will perform a solo performance again, playing a variety of sounds. Although they were all young bands born in 2003, the band’s high level of playability can be seen from the individual members’ solos that are often interwoven together, and it’s also reassuring that their first tour has given them some extra room in staging.
Continuing the interesting “stamen love story”, which features a combination of “Cooen” with memorable talkbox use from Ofen, soul-like styles based on Al Green, and lyrics based on everyday “meals,” the next one was a cover of a famous J-POP song that was familiar from Luv’s live shows. At the live show at SXSW, which was held for the first time in the US in March, they mashed up “First Chou” and Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke,” but the cover of the day was PUFFY’s “Sign of Love,” and the cover was a soft four-shot, similar to the old disco hits of the past. While he has a love for overseas acid jazz and neo-soul, the friendlyness of covering J-POP while enjoying its J-POP is different from the 2010s bands they admired, making it a unique 2020s band.

During the MC, Hiyn, the members, mainly in Kansai dialect, have casual conversations, and their undressed atmosphere is also attractive. As the second half of the live show continues with songs from their indie days such as “Jamlady” and “R.wiseman”, Sho’s powerful beat, which became the band’s backbone of the band on “Stevlay,” and Zum’s funk bass is also pleasant. “The performance in Tokyo led me to try my best to have a meal with the five of us in a band,” and “I was saved by the people who liven up together,” Hiyn said with a slightly embarrassed expression on his face, but also expressed his sincere gratitude, and the ballad number “LUV” was performed with the title of the band in capital letters. As sung in this song, “Knowing the Little One, Being Us,” they don’t talk about big dreams like “I want to perform a live performance at Tokyo Dome” or “I want to win a Grammy Awards,” but instead set a life-size goal, “Let’s have the five of us to eat dinner,” and that’s why the audience wants to work together to support them from the same perspective.
From the jazzy, splendor of a “good man’s journey” with a red tambourine, Ofeen said, “I love Tokyo! Please dance to everyone from Luv to Send To You! Don’t let them say to you to the point where you can’t express your excitement!”, Luv’s new signature song, “Send To You.” This song uses a familiar talk box, and the last refrain from “I wanna send to you” raises all the hands from the floor at once, making it a highlight of the live show. Furthermore, the main story ended with a lively excitement, featuring a dance tune called “Spare” that gives off a sense of speedier performance than the sound source.
During the encore, Zum suddenly began playing “Happy Birthday to You,” and also celebrated the near-birthday of Ofen and Rosa with surprises. The song that was performed here was “Rear,” the latest song written as a campaign song for “Spotify on Playstation.” The song, sung by saying, “I want to send it to someone in the world,” is a love letter from Luv, which is expanding its activities both domestically and internationally, and is also a new statement of Luv’s policy of playing music like playing games and having fun to the fullest, and its positive vibes were certainly felt from the chorus of this song and the entire live performance that day. The last one was “Motrr,” which was first released as a luv. Once again, each member performed skillful solos, and the first tour was concluded, as if it were a Luv-like thing until the very end.
Luv has been making a number of appearances at large festivals starting from Golden Week. We will continue to keep an eye on their success.
