The Wisely Brothers released their new album, “Sono Zen’ya,” today, Wednesday, May 29th.
After their first UK tour in 2022, the three have shifted to a live performance that combines improvisation and music as a new form of expression. This work is the first recording by The Wisely Brothers to explore the possibilities of improvisational performance.
The band sound is centered around the three expressions of free sessions that gradually intertwine, with the drifting clarinet, the sound of the drums played with a whisk, the sound of small instruments, and the voice of guitarist Madate jumping in like instruments. The recording was done at TAGO STUDIO Takasaki, and the sound engineer was Hiroshi Ikeda (hmc studio), just like the previous work. The artwork was made from a print hand-carved by Madate. It depicts three doves born from the coincidence of illustration, carving, and printing.
Additionally, a one-shot recording video of tracks not included on the album, “Take 5,” was also released on YouTube today. It was shot and directed by Taiichi Hishikawa, the cameraman who also shot the UK tour documentary film.
In addition, they have also decided to hold solo performances at the live house “Soto” in Kyoto on Saturday, June 22nd, and at “Toumukayama Ryodenji” in Machida, Tokyo on Saturday, July 6th. Reservations have started from today. A pamphlet with a limited edition “Sono Zen’ya” CD, which includes the recording scene and afterwords by the members, will also be released from the two performances.

Coming off their 2022 UK tour, we wanted to make sure The Wisely Brothers were our favourite band.
When I performed live for the first time without any sheet music, the sound I made was influenced by the place, time, and surroundings.
It was a fresh experience for us and made us fall in love with music again.
After much confusion, we arrived at these 10 improvisations.
