Umei Misaki decides to hold a solo concert featuring "one piano"

Composer/pianist Umei Misaki will hold a solo piano concert at Marunouchi COTTON CLUB in Tokyo on Friday, May 16th.

The solo concert was held at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall in December last year, and despite the entire piece consisting of only one piano, it captivated an audience of a wide range of generations. In addition to original songs, there was a time where the story was “interacted through sound” with the audience, with original arrangements, including classical works that have roots such as M. Lovell’s “Water Play,” N. Capustin’s Piano Sonata No. 6 Op. 62, Takemitsu Toru’s “Rain Tree Sketch II,” and Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and Pete Seeger’s work, and the story was created using only the piano and “interacted with sound” with the audience.

This performance will be positioned as a “sequel” that follows the recital. Umei, who is currently producing an album, will be focusing on original songs this time, with a 90-minute, one-stage piano performance composition, which will challenge the creation of a deeper, more delicate world of music.

For Umei, who has worked on a variety of projects including band composition, video music, ensemble, singing, and electro, the simplest form of expression, a solo piano, is still one of the important pillars of his creation. As she has been familiar with composition and improvisation since her childhood, playing on the piano is the origin of her musical activities and is still at the heart of her creations today. This performance will be a place to present the current musicality through solo piano performances, which can be said to be the origin of this performance.
