Julia Takada released her new single, “Can we do it again?” today, Wednesday, June 4th.
Julia Takada is a singer affiliated with Creative Collective/label wau. Delivered in just three months since the second EP “You & I” released in March, this work is a fresh yet bittersweet indie pop number that seems to incorporate your inner emotions into the sound. They dance alone in the bedroom to the song they sang at the time – the lyrics, which capture the scene, are left in the listener’s hearts, just like a single shot from a movie. The vintage Ulitzer tone, soft yet bouncing bass and delicate chorus work are also impressive.
The soulful, raid-back texture reminiscent of Paul Cherry, Benny Sings, Mocky and others, and Julia’s own naive, somewhat dignified singing voice intersects. It resonates more like “the memory of a summer” than the music. Also, as sung by “I’m in my room with my headphones on / Dancing to the song we both sang…”, even after everything has passed, the two are still there in the music. This song, which leaves delicate space in a light groove, is a song that resonates with emotions that cannot be described as a broken heart, and changes everyday life into a slightly romantic way.
The memorable cover artwork is drawn by Julia herself. The bleeds and fluctuations in the lines that are unique to hand-drawn works with the emotional fluctuations of the song, and the visuals also convey Julia’s worldview.

[Julia Takada Comment]
“Can we do it again?” is a song about two people who are gradually drawn to each other after meeting at a party. With the desire to experience the moment again, he sings, “Let’s go over (that encounter) again.” I would be happy if they accompanied me on a nice morning or a walk.
